Chapter 4 - The Soumaya Gala Trap

A high-society event, a room full of enemies, and a dress that became a target. The night of the gala arrived.

The Museo Soumaya, with its glittering, futuristic silver facade, was teeming with paparazzi, politicians, and billionaires.

Valeria arrived on Alejandro’s arm. She was wearing the midnight-blue silk gown.

To the untrained eye, she looked like the epitome of elegance. Her hair was swept up, her diamonds caught the light of a thousand camera flashes, and she smiled effortlessly for the reporters.

But beneath the heavy silk, Valeria’s skin was crawling. She had re-stitched the tracking tile back into the lining, but she had altered the wiring using a small battery from her watch, boosting its signal to broadcast to a completely different receiver—one owned by an independent, underground investigative journalist she had contacted through Natalia.

"You look absolutely spectacular," Alejandro whispered in her ear, his hand resting possessively on her waist as they walked up the grand spiral ramp of the museum.

"I feel... unforgettable," Valeria replied, her voice laced with double meaning.

As they reached the top floor, Valeria spotted the politician from the video—Senator Silva. He was sipping champagne, surrounded by bodyguards. When his eyes landed on Valeria, his glass froze halfway to his mouth.

His eyes locked onto the midnight-blue dress.

The color drained from his face, exactly as it had from Natalia's.

"Alejandro," Senator Silva said, stepping away from his entourage to greet them, his voice tight. "Your wife... she is wearing a very unique piece tonight."

"A custom design, Senator," Alejandro said smoothly. "I thought it suited her perfectly."

"It's a shame," the Senator muttered, looking directly into Valeria's eyes. "Some designs are so beautiful they are... dangerous to keep."

Valeria smiled, leaning in close. "Don't worry, Senator. I know exactly how much this dress is worth. In fact, I’ve decided to share its history with a few... close friends tonight."

Before Alejandro or the Senator could react, Valeria excused herself to the restroom.

But she didn't go to the restroom.

She ran down the back exit stairs of the museum, heading straight for the basement parking lot where Natalia was waiting in the getaway car.

She had to get out. The trap was set, but she was still the bait.
