Chapter 4 - The Corporate War

"He’s hacking my network," Jack muttered, his eyes reflecting the glow of his phone screen as the mansion remained plunged in darkness.
"Jack, we have to leave," Emma panicked, standing up so quickly her chair scraped loudly against the floor. "He’s going to call the police and report me for grand theft. He has the political connections to make it stick!"
"No," Jack said, his voice dropping into a zone of absolute, terrifying calm. He was no longer just a man on a bad blind date; he was the CEO who had conquered Silicon Valley. "We don't run. When a shark smells blood, running only makes them chase you faster. You turn around and you kill the shark."
He grabbed his laptop, which was running on its internal battery, and opened a secure, encrypted satellite channel that bypassed the house’s main servers. Within seconds, he dialed his chief technology officer and his head of legal.
"Wake up," Jack said without preamble when they answered. "We are under a Tier-1 cyber assault from Vance Global Dynamics. I want a complete digital lockdown of all Brennan Tech servers. Deploy the 'Aegis' protocol."
"Sir?" his CTO stammered over the speaker. "The Aegis protocol is experimental. If we lock down our servers entirely, it will halt all trading and cost the company forty million dollars an hour!"
"Do it," Jack barked. "And get our legal team to draft an emergency injunction against Victor Vance for corporate espionage and extortion. I'm coming into the office."
He closed the laptop and turned to Emma. "Pack Lily up. We’re going to the Brennan Tech headquarters downtown. It’s a literal bunker. He can't touch us there."
An hour later, they arrived at the towering glass monolith of Brennan Technologies in the heart of the city. The building was crawling with high-level security guards, all heavily armed. Jack led Emma and a sleepy, confused Lily into his private executive suite on the top floor.
For the next four hours, the suite became a war room. Jack worked tirelessly alongside his top engineers, tracing the digital attacks Victor was launching against his company. It was a brutal, invisible war. Victor was trying to crash Jack’s stock price by leaking fabricated data, while Jack’s team was fighting to keep the company’s infrastructure alive.
Emma sat at a secondary terminal, her fingers flying across the keyboard with a speed that left Jack’s senior engineers staring in awe.
"Jack!" she called out, her voice tight with adrenaline. "I’m tracking the source of his hack. He isn't operating from his corporate office. He's using a private server array located in a warehouse near the docks. That’s where he’s keeping the backup files of the genetic project. If we can get physical access to that server, we can wipe his data permanently and find the evidence of his illegal human experimentation."
Jack walked over to her screen, looking at the blinking red dot on the map. "If we go there, we're walking straight into his trap."
"It's the only way to end this, Jack," Emma said, looking up at him with fierce determination. "As long as that data exists, he will never stop hunting Lily. I have to go."
"You're not going anywhere alone," Jack said, reaching for his coat. "I’m coming with you. We end this tonight."
He turned to his trusted head of security, a former Special Forces commander named Marcus. "Guard Lily with your life. If anyone comes through that door who isn't me or Emma, you use lethal force."

"Understood, boss," Marcus nodded grimly.
Jack took Emma’s hand, their fingers intertwining naturally, as if they had been doing it for years instead of hours. Together, they stepped into the elevator, heading down into the belly of the beast.
