Chapter 7 - The Final Confrontation at the Grand Ballroom

Leo stood frozen in the middle of the room. The silence was deafening, broken only by the sound of the rain beating against the glass roof.

Maya looked at Leo, tears filling her eyes. “Leo... I didn’t know. I swear to you, she told me she loved you... she told me she wanted to save you...”

Arthur smiled victoriously. “Guards, execute the girl. Take my nephew to his room.”

Two guards raised their rifles, aiming directly at Maya’s chest. Maya closed her eyes, accepting her fate.

Leo slowly reached into his trench coat pocket. He didn’t reach for a weapon. He pulled out the glass amber vial Maya had given him in the forest.

“You’re right, Arthur,” Leo said softly, his voice chillingly calm. “Maybe my mother was a monster. Maybe my blood is poisoned.”

He looked up at Arthur, his eyes burning with absolute clarity.

“But this girl was the only person who ever held my hand without wanting something in return.”

In one violent motion, Leo smashed the amber vial onto the floor and kicked a heavy metal display case straight into the knees of the guard nearest to him!

The guard collapsed with a shriek. Maya snapped back to reality, diving for the guard’s dropped weapon. She swept the legs of the second guard, knocking him out cold against the marble floor.

“Run!” Leo shouted, his legs moving with unnatural, violent speed—not because he was healed, but because his pure, raw adrenaline overpowered the agony in his nervous system!

They sprinted out of the conservatory, bursting straight into the grand ballroom where the story had begun six days ago.

Arthur chased after them, pulling a heavy silver revolver from his suit jacket. “You won’t leave this house alive, Leo! If I can’t control the Sterling empire, nobody will!”
