Chapter 19 - The Ashes of NaplesWithin ten minutes, the Rossi syndicate was dismantled from the inside out. Don Lorenzo was dead, his remaining loyalists surrendered or fled into the Mediterranean night, and Rachel was safely secured by Marco’s team, prepped for an immediate, private flight back to the United States with a new identity, full protection, and a bank account funded by the Russo empire that would ensure she never had to worry about rent again.

I stood on the cliffside terrace of the Naples villa, wrapping a heavy wool coat tightly around my shoulders as I watched the orange glow of the burning outbuildings fade against the black canvas of the sea.

Footsteps crunched on the gravel behind me.

Alessandro walked up, standing close enough that I could feel the familiar, comforting heat of his body. He handed me a crystal glass filled with warm red wine.

"Is she safe?" I asked softly, taking the glass and staring out over the dark water.

"Her plane is over international airspace," Alessandro replied, his voice low and soothing. "She will have a new life in Zurich, far away from any of this. No one will ever touch her."

I turned to look up at him. The soot and blood from the firefight were gone, washed away, but the intense, magnetic gravity of his presence remained unchanged.

"And us?" I asked, my voice barely carrying over the sound of the crashing waves below. "What happens now, Alessandro?"

Alessandro turned to face me fully, taking the glass from my hand and setting it on the stone balustrade. He reached out, his warm, calloused fingers cupping my face, tracing the line of my jaw with infinite tenderness.

"Now," he murmured, his dark eyes burning into mine with an unyielding, eternal promise, "the war is over. The enemies are gone. And you are officially the queen of my world, Sophia—whether you like it or not."

I let out a soft, breathless laugh, leaning my forehead against his chest. "I think... I think I'm finally okay with that."
