CHAPTER 6 – THE TRAP IN THE VALLEY

Ranger sprinted through the snow-covered woods.
Victor’s men followed, laughing quietly.
Their plan was working.
The dog was leading them straight to the hidden wolf den.
But Ranger knew every path.
Every broken branch.
Every frozen creek.
He wasn’t leading them to the wolves.
He was leading them to Deadman’s Hollow.
A deep valley where old hunters used to get lost for days.
Victor realized too late.
The snow beneath his boots cracked.
One man fell through thin ice into the freezing creek.
Another dropped his rifle when Ranger charged from the shadows.
Then a howl rolled through the valley.
The gray wolf appeared on the ridge.
Behind him stood the entire pack.
Victor turned pale.
For the first time, the hunter understood.
Ranger had not betrayed the wolves.
He had called them.
The wolves surrounded the valley, blocking every escape.
Ranger stood beside the gray wolf like two kings guarding one kingdom.
Victor raised his tranquilizer gun.
But before he could fire—
Emily’s voice rang out from the hill.
“Don’t move!”
Thomas stood beside her with the sheriff and half the town.
Victor’s secret operation had been recorded on Emily’s old camera.
The traps.
The fire.
The illegal hunt.
Everything.
By sunrise, Victor and his men were arrested.
But the biggest shock came when the sheriff opened Victor’s truck.
Inside was a metal tag from Ranger’s past.
A tag that proved Ranger had not been an ordinary rescue dog.
He had once belonged to a government wildlife experiment…
May you like
And someone had been searching for him for years.
