Chapter 4 - The DNA BombshellMarcus began to laugh maniacally, throwing his head back as the board members backed away from him in disgust.

"You think you've won, Julian?" Marcus sneered, pulling a sealed envelope from his inner suit jacket and throwing it onto the middle of the conference table. "Go ahead! Put me in prison! But you will lose everything that actually matters to you!"

"What is that?" I asked, my chest tightening.

"That is a court-certified genetic test conducted six months ago," Marcus hissed, his eyes filled with pure malice. "Claire didn't just sleep with you, Julian. She was seeing me before you two got married. Those four little bratty girls shivering in your house? None of them are yours. They are MINE."

The boardroom gasped. My heart felt like it had been pierced by an ice pick.

"Under Colorado state law," Marcus continued, stepping closer with a predatory smirk, "if I file a paternity petition as the biological father, and demonstrate that you are an absent parent facing a massive criminal investigation into domestic child abuse in your home, the court will award FULL legal custody of those girls to ME."

He leaned in close, whispering in my face: "And as their legal guardian, I will inherit control of the $500 million trust fund Claire left them. You spent six years building an empire for my children, Julian. Thank you."

I stood motionless as Marcus pulled his coat around himself, picked up his briefcase, and walked out of the boardroom with supreme confidence.

My hands shook as I reached for the document on the table. The official laboratory seal was authentic. The DNA match probability for Marcus Vance as the paternal source for Emma, Sophie, Grace, and Lily was 99.9%.

Was my whole life a lie? Was my late wife Claire involved in a betrayal so deep it destroyed my very identity?
