Chapter 10 - The Unseen InvitationBack in Denver, autumn leaves were beginning to blanket the sidewalks of Washington Park.

My phone rang while I was unpacking my bags in my newly renovated, debt-free penthouse apartment overlooking the city skyline.

It was an unfamiliar local number. I almost didn't answer, but curiosity got the better of me.

"Hello?" I said.

"Is this Marin Whitlock?" a warm, professional female voice asked.

"Yes, speaking."

"Hi Marin! My name is Clara. I’m with the Denver Foundation for Women Entrepreneurs. We are hosting our annual charity gala next month, and our committee has been following your recent financial advocacy work and public restructuring triumphs. We would love to formally invite you as our guest of honor and keynote speaker."

I smiled, looking out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the magnificent view of the Rocky Mountains standing tall, strong, and unmovable in the distance.

"I would be honored," I said.

"Wonderful! We’ll send the formal invitation packet to your address right away. And don't worry—this time, you'll actually be on the guest list."

I laughed softly, feeling a lightness in my chest I had never known was possible.

"I know," I said. "And for once, I'm the one holding the pen."
