Chapter 14 - The ConvergenceBack in Chicago, I was reviewing the quarterly growth metrics when Elena buzzed my desk intercom.

"Mrs. Carter, you have a visitor in the private lobby," Elena said. "A gentleman by the name of Detective Miller from the federal financial crimes division. He brought the signed cooperation affidavits from the Florida district."
I leaned back, a calm sense of closure washing over me. "Send him in."
Detective Miller entered a minute later, carrying a secure briefcase. He was a middle-aged man with sharp eyes and an expression of grim professional respect.
"Victoria," Miller greeted me, shaking my hand firmly. "It looks like the case is wrapping up faster than anticipated. Alyssa Monroe signed the full cooperation agreement this morning. She provided transcripts of text messages, audio recordings, and emails proving that Sebastian Carter orchestrated the entire asset-theft scheme from day one."
"I expected nothing less," I replied smoothly, motioning for him to take a seat. "Cowards always fold when the pressure mounts."
"Because of her testimony, the D.A. has officially issued a warrant for Sebastian Carter's arrest on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and corporate extortion," Miller continued, opening his briefcase and sliding a certified copy of the arrest warrant across my desk. "Given that he's currently residing with his mother in Indiana—who is also facing imminent eviction—local marshals are executing the pickup today."

I looked down at the warrant. Sebastian’s face stared up from the paperwork—not the smiling, confident groom from the beach photos, but a desperate, cornered man whose entire fabricated reality had completely collapsed.
"Thank you, Detective," I said quietly. "Let justice take its course."
