The headline read: EMPIRE BUILT ON STEEL: HOW VICTORIA CARTER DEFEATED A HOSTILE TAKEOVER AND SURGED TO RECORD HIGHS.

Elena walked into my office, placing a sleek invitation on the desk.

I picked up the invitation, tracing the embossed gold lettering with my thumb.
"Will you be attending alone?" Elena asked gently.
I looked up, meeting her gaze with a serene, confident smile.
"I'm not alone, Elena," I said softly, gesturing toward the sprawling view of the Chicago skyline outside my window. "I have everything I ever built, and everything I ever earned."

My phone buzzed on the desk. A legal notification flashed across the screen: Sebastian Carter's trial date set for federal court. Plea negotiation rejected.
I didn't even bother opening the notification. I simply swiped it away, locking the screen.
