Chapter 5 - The Ultimate Sacrifice

Chaos erupted in the boardroom. Board members began shouting, shouting for their lawyers, pulling out their phones as the company's stock price began to plummet in real-time on the wall monitors.
Victor’s smug expression shattered into pure panic. He looked at Elena, realization dawning on him that they had walked straight into a trap. "You stupid bitch," he hissed at her. "You told me you had him handled!"
"I did!" Elena screamed, her composure entirely gone.
Suddenly, the glass doors to the balcony shattered. Sirens wailed from the streets below. Federal agents swarmed the boardroom, weapons drawn. "Victor Vance! Elena Vance! Put your hands in the air!"
Victor, cornered and desperate, drew a small compact pistol from his inner jacket pocket. He grabbed Elena, pulling her in front of him as a human shield, pointing the gun directly at Clara. "Stay back! All of you stay back, or I’ll kill her! I’m not going to jail for the rest of my life because of a couple of ungrateful brats!"
"Victor, stop!" Elena shrieked, feeling the cold steel of the gun against her neck. The man she had betrayed her husband for was now using her as a shield. "Let me go! You said you loved me!"
"I loved your access to Richard’s money, you fool!" Victor snarled.
Through the chaos, a figure stepped through the FBI ranks. It was Richard. He looked frail, his face pale from the months of slow poisoning, but his posture was rigid, unbreakable.
"Put the gun down, brother," Richard said calmly.
"Richard!" Victor laughed maniacally. "You’re too late. Look at the monitors! The news leaked. The stocks are down 80%. Vance Enterprises is dead! We are all ruined!"
"I don't care about the money, Victor," Richard whispered. "I care about my family. And you destroyed it."
In a flash of desperate madness, Victor pulled the trigger. But he didn't aim at Clara—he aimed at Richard.
BANG.

A body fell to the ground. But it wasn't Richard. In a sudden, chaotic scramble, Elena, realizing she had lost everything and terrified of Victor's madness, had tried to break free, knocking Victor’s arm. The bullet grazed Richard’s shoulder, but the recoil and the struggle sent both Victor and Elena stumbling backward—straight through the shattered glass railing of the 50th-floor balcony.
A collective gasp echoed through the room as they disappeared into the abyss.
