Chapter 4 - The Housekeeper’s USB Drive — "The 2:00 AM Recording from the Kitchen That Blew Their Alibi Apart!"

The study remained frozen for three long seconds. Beverly’s smirk was wide, radiating pure, poisonous confidence. She thought she had checked our king.

Then, Grandfather Theodore let out a dry, hacking laugh.

"Charles," the old man said softly. "Did you really think I didn't know about Dr. Vance? The man has been on your personal payroll for five years to cover up your prescription drug issues."

Beverly’s smile faltered slightly. "It doesn't matter what you know, old man. The signature is legal. The court will accept it."

"Not after they see this," a quiet voice spoke from the study doorway.

We all turned. Rosa, my grandfather’s trusted personal assistant and housekeeper for thirty years, stood there. She was still wearing her formal black attire from the wedding, but in her hand, she held a small, silver USB flash drive.

"Rosa?" my mother snapped, her voice high and sharp. "What are you doing here? You belong back at the estate cleaning up the catering mess."

"I don't work for you, Beverly," Rosa said firmly, walking past my mother and placing the USB drive directly into my hand. "Miss Samantha, this is from the library at the estate. Two weeks ago, during the pre-wedding dinner."

I plugged the drive into my laptop on the desk. Within seconds, a crystal-clear audio-video file loaded onto the screen. It was a security feed from the private library.

On the screen, my mother and Dr. Vance were sitting on the leather sofa. My mother was counting out fifty thousand dollars in neat, banded stacks of cash from a designer shopping bag, sliding them across the table toward the doctor.

"All I need is the signature, Harold," Beverly’s recorded voice echoed clearly through the penthouse speakers. "The old man is stubborn, but he’s weak. Once we have him declared incompetent, Samantha won't have a leg to stand on. We'll seize the penthouse, liquidate the trust, and clear the maritime debt before the board realizes the reserves are gone."

My father collapsed onto the small sofa near the window, burying his face in his hands. "Oh my god, Beverly... you did it on camera?"

"Shut up, Charles!" Beverly screamed, her face turning a grotesque shade of mottled red. She lunged across the desk to grab the laptop, but Arthur moved instantly, his massive hand locking around her wrist, stopping her mid-air.

"Let go of me! You're an employee! I’ll have you fired! I’ll have you arrested!" she shrieked.

"The only person being arrested tonight, Mother," I said, looking up from the screen with a calm that terrified her, "is you. Bribery, extortion, conspiracy to commit fraud, and elder abuse. Mr. Vance—our family attorney, the real one—has already copied this file directly to the State Prosecutor's database."
