Chapter 6 - The Final StrikeBefore Julian’s fingers could close around the handle of the saw, I moved with the terrifying speed and economy of motion carved into my muscle memory decades ago.

In a single fluid blur, I pivoted on my heel, swept his legs out from under him with a textbook martial arts low-kick, and sent the celebrated surgeon crashing hard against the stainless-steel instrument table. Surgical trays, scalpels, and clamps scattered across the floor in a deafening clatter of metal.
Before Julian could gasp for air, I pinned him to the floor, driving my knee squarely into the center of his chest and pressing the cold, heavy barrel of a federal-issue taser directly against his throat.
“Don’t even breathe, Julian,” I whispered, my voice chillingly soft, loud enough only for him to hear. “One twitch, and I’ll send fifty thousand volts straight through your carotid artery.”
Julian choked beneath my weight, his hands clawing uselessly at the linoleum floor as the federal marshals swarmed in, slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists and hauling him violently to his feet.
“You’re finished!” Julian screamed, spittle flying from his lips as they dragged him toward the sliding doors. “My lawyers will tear you apart! You’ll never step foot outside this hospital! I own this city!”
“You used to own it, Julian,” I replied, standing up and brushing a speck of dust from my jacket as I watched him being hauled away like common trash. “Now, you’re just another file in the archive.”
As the doors slammed shut behind him, the emergency alarms finally ceased, replaced by the gentle, steady hum of standard hospital power returning to the wing.
Silence settled over Operating Room 1.
I turned around and rushed to the surgical table, where Chloe was struggling against her restraints, tears streaming down her face, hyperventilating in sheer panic.
“Mom… Mom, is it over? Is he gone?” she sobbed.
“It’s over, sweetheart. He’s gone. He’s never coming back,” I said gently, my hands moving swiftly to unbuckle the leather straps holding her wrists.

I tossed the straps aside, pulling Chloe up into my arms as she buried her face in my shoulder, weeping tears of pure, unadulterated relief.
“Now,” I whispered, smiling down at her as the head obstetrician—a trusted, uncorrupted doctor brought in by the federal team—stepped forward to take over the delivery. “Let’s bring my grandchild into a world where monsters like Julian no longer exist.”
