Chapter 8 - The Queen’s Restoration

Three Weeks Later.

The grand boardroom on the top floor of the Manhattan Stock Exchange was packed to absolute capacity. The international media had dubbed it "The Settlement of the Century."

Ethan Blake sat at the far end of the long mahogany conference table, flanked by court-appointed public defenders. He was wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, his hands cuffed to his waist belt. He had lost twenty pounds, his hair was disheveled, and his face was gaunt. He looked like a ghost of the arrogant CEO who had left me in my apartment three weeks ago.

Beside him sat Evelyn Vance, also in prison garments, staring blankly at the table as a battery of federal prosecutors prepared their evidence packages.

At the head of the table sat the remaining board members of Blake Technologies and Rashid Global Holdings.

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.

I walked in.

I was no longer wearing the soft, modest clothes Ethan had always forced me to wear to make me look invisible. I wore an emerald-green tailored power suit, my hair styled in sleek, elegant waves, walking with a calm, absolute confidence that commanded the entire room.

Beside me walked Sheikh Adrian Rashid, looking immaculate in a charcoal suit, and my father, Arthur Vance, who had fully recovered from his shoulder injury and was now officially reinstated as the Chairman of Vance Historical Restorations.

Ethan looked up as I entered. When his eyes met mine, a terrible, agonizing look of regret flashed across his face.

"Claire..." he rasped, his voice trembling. "Please... can I talk to you for one minute? Just one minute..."

I didn't even slow my stride. I walked right past him as if he were invisible, taking my seat at the absolute head of the executive table—the seat reserved for the majority stakeholder.

The head prosecutor stood up, clearing his throat. "We are here to finalize the bankruptcy liquidation of Blake Technologies and the full transfer of all intellectual property back to their rightful owner."

The prosecutor slid a stack of legal documents toward me.

"Miss Vance," the prosecutor said respectfully. "By signing these documents, you officially dissolve Blake Technologies. All assets, servers, and patents will be transferred directly to your new entity, Vance-Rashid Global Restoration."

I took the gold pen provided by the bailiff.

Ethan suddenly burst into desperate sobs, leaning forward against his restraints. "Claire! Please don't destroy my company! I spent four years building it! I gave you everything! I loved you!"

I paused, holding the pen above the paper. I turned my head slowly to look at him.

"You gave me nothing, Ethan," I said, my voice echoing clearly through the silent boardroom. "You took my code, you took my money, you separated me from my father, and you brought another woman to a ball to humiliate me because you thought I was weak."

I looked down at the document.

"You didn't build a tech company, Ethan," I added calmly. "You built a house of cards on a foundation of lies. And I am a restoration expert. My job is to demolish rotten structures."

With a swift, elegant motion, I signed my name at the bottom of the master decree.

Claire Vance.

"It's done," the prosecutor announced. "Blake Technologies is legally dissolved. Mr. Blake, Mrs. Vance, you will now be escorted back to federal custody to await sentencing."

As the guards pulled Ethan up from his chair, he began screaming hysterically, weeping uncontrollably as he was dragged toward the side doors. "CLAIRE! PLEASE! LOOK AT ME! CLAIRE!"

Vanessa Stone, who had been sitting in the gallery gallery after striking a plea deal with prosecutors to testify against Ethan, watched in absolute horror as her former lover was dragged away to serve what would likely be a twenty-year prison sentence. She caught my eye, looking terrified that I might target her next.

I simply looked away. She wasn't worth my time.

Once the room cleared of federal agents and prisoners, the room fell into a quiet, peaceful calm.

Adrian stood up from his chair and walked over to my side, placing a warm hand on the back of my chair. "How do you feel, Madam Chairwoman?"

I looked down at the signed documents, then out the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Wall Street and the Statue of Liberty in the distance. The sun was breaking through the morning clouds, bathing the city in a brilliant golden light.

"I feel like myself again," I smiled, turning to look up at Adrian. "No... I feel better than myself."

"Good," Adrian said, his eyes softening as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box.

My heart skipped a beat.

He opened the box. Inside was not a diamond ring, but a breathtaking, antique wax seal ring made of solid gold, engraved with the dual crests of the Vance and Rashid families—the exact seal my grandfather had used in Dubai fifty years ago.

"This was returned to my family vault yesterday from the evidence locker," Adrian said softly. "It belongs to the head of Vance Restorations."

I took the ring, sliding it onto my finger. It fit perfectly.

"Thank you, Adrian," I whispered. "For everything."

"You don't need to thank me, Claire," Adrian smiled, leaning down slightly, his voice dropping into an intimate whisper. "You restored your own life. I was just honored to have a front-row seat."

As we walked out of the boardroom together, hand in hand, surrounded by flashing press cameras and cheering investors, I knew that the chapter of humiliation, betrayal, and pain was officially closed.

I wasn't just the girl who was left behind in the lavender dress anymore.

I was the woman who rebuilt an empire from the ashes.
