Chapter 5 - The Golden CageThe wrought-iron gates of the Moretti estate swung open automatically, admitting the convoy of black SUVs into a sprawling, park-like estate that sat high above the Schuylkill River. Neo-classical architecture blended seamlessly with state-of-the-art security towers, creating a fortress disguised as a billionaire’s paradise.

Nora sat rigidly in the passenger seat of Dominic’s personal vehicle, staring out the window at the manicured lawns and armed guards patrolling the perimeter.
"This is insane," Nora said, her voice trembling as the car came to a halt in front of a grand limestone portico. "I have a job. I have a life. You can't just kidnap me because some lunatic broke into my apartment!"
"I didn't kidnap you, Nora. I relocated you," Dominic replied, stepping out and opening her door. He extended a hand, but she ignored it, sliding out on her own and stumbling slightly on the gravel. "If you walk out those gates right now, Leo Santoro’s men will skin you alive by noon. They know you were in that alley. They know you helped my daughter."
At the mention of Lia, Nora’s defiance faltered. She remembered the little girl’s pale, freezing face, the blue lips, the desperate grip on her coat.
"Is she... is she okay?" Nora asked softly, her anger fading into genuine concern.
"She’s sleeping," Dominic said, a subtle softening crossing his harsh features. "She asked about the waitress who gave her a coat. She wants to thank you."
Before Nora could respond, the massive oak front doors swung open, and Lia bounded down the steps, wrapped in a silk bathrobe, her blonde curls bouncing.
"Nora!" the little girl cried, running straight toward her and wrapping her arms around Nora’s waist.
Nora’s breath hitched. She dropped to her knees, hugging the child back fiercely. "Hey there, kiddo. You gave us quite a scare."
Dominic watched them from the steps, a strange, unfamiliar warmth stirring in his chest. In his world, weakness was a death sentence, and sentimentality was a bullet to the head. Yet looking at the ordinary diner waitress holding his daughter, he felt something he hadn't felt since his wife died: a fragile, terrifying anchor.
"Come inside," Dominic said quietly. "We have work to do."
Inside the estate's private study, the decrypted contents of the microchip were displayed on an enormous wall-mounted screen. Matteo stood by the console, tapping a few keys to bring up a digital blueprint of the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank.
"It’s not a ransom note," Matteo announced, his face pale. "It’s a blueprint. And look at the annotations."
Dominic stepped closer, his eyes narrowing as he read the encrypted code embedded in the file. "It’s a blueprint for a heist. Not a bank robbery... a vault breach of the city's gold reserves. And Leo needs my security clearance code to open the final bulkhead."
"Why would Leo Santoro want gold?" Nora asked, stepping cautiously into the study, still wrapped in Dominic’s oversized cashmere coat. "He’s a mobster, not Jesse James."
Dominic turned to her, his gaze intense. "Because gold can be laundered anywhere in the world without a paper trail. And with that gold, he plans to buy out every corrupt politician, judge, and cop in Pennsylvania, turning this city into his personal kingdom. And he used my daughter to force me to give him the override code."

"And if you don't give it to him?" Nora whispered.
"Then he kills Lia," Dominic said, his voice dropping to a deadly whisper. "Slowly. Piece by piece."
