Chapter 10 - Dawn Over the EmpireThree months later, the front page of every major financial newspaper carried a headline that sent shockwaves through Wall Street:

THE FALL OF STERLING, THE RISE OF VANCE: THE TRUE HEIR RECLAIMS THE FOOD EMPIRE.

The image below the headline wasn't Elliot in his charcoal overcoat. It was a photograph taken on the sunlit steps of Somerset House—which had now been entirely rebuilt, funded by a multi-million-dollar endowment from the newly restructured Vance Foundation.

In the center of the photo stood Maisie Vance, smiling genuinely for the first time in thirty years, holding her daughter Lily by one hand. Standing beside them, wearing a simple linen shirt instead of his usual billion-dollar armor, was Elliot.

Lily was no longer wearing oversized, worn-out clothes. She wore a bright yellow dress, and tucked securely under her arm was her favorite toy: the bald rag doll, now sitting proudly inside a custom-made glass display case in the orphanage's new library, inscribed with a simple plaque:

“To be loved is not something you earn. It is something you are born to receive.”

Elliot looked down at his sister and niece as the morning sun broke warmly over the newly restored courtyard, washing away the shadows of the past forever.
