Chapter 9 - The Final VerdictMaisie gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. She stared at the little girl standing in the doorway, as if seeing a miracle incarnate.

"Lily...?" Maisie whispered.

"She left you with the doll at Somerset House," Elliot explained rapidly, tears streaming down his face as he helped Maisie to her feet. "Marcus and his father tried to hide her to keep control of the company, but she survived, Maisie. Your daughter survived."

Mother and daughter rushed toward each other, colliding in the center of the sterile room in a desperate, clinging embrace that transcended thirty years of nightmare and pain.

Just as the emotional reunion reached its peak, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed down the corridor.

Marcus Sterling stepped into the doorway, flanked by four armed corporate security guards. He held a sleek tablet in one hand and a silver pistol in the other, a cold, desperate smile plastered across his face.

"Well, well, well," Marcus sneered, leveling his weapon right at Elliot’s chest. "A heartwarming family reunion. Truly touching. Unfortunately, family reunions don't hold up against a hostile corporate buyout and a signed liquidation order."

Viktor and his men were pinned outside the hallway by Marcus’s reinforcements, leaving Elliot cornered in the small room.

"It's over, Marcus," Elliot said calmly, standing up between his sister, his niece, and the barrel of the gun. "Your father is dead, your assets are frozen, and my private legal team has already transmitted the forensic proof of your embezzlement to the federal authorities. Vance Nutrition belongs to Maisie now."

Marcus’s smile faltered, a flicker of genuine panic crossing his eyes. "You think the law will save you? I can pull this trigger right now, wipe out the entire bloodline, and inherit the trust by default!"

"You won't pull the trigger," a calm, digital voice echoed from the corridor speakers.

Marcus blinked. "What?"

The wall-mounted intercom crackled to life. A federal prosecutor’s voice boomed through the sanitarium:

“Marcus Sterling, you are surrounded by the FBI and the Department of Justice. Drop your weapon immediately. All international accounts tied to Sterling Holdings have been seized.”

Marcus spun around toward the hallway, his face draining of all color. Before he could raise his weapon, a flash grenade blinded the corridor, followed by a swift, decisive takedown from federal agents who had infiltrated the facility through the maintenance tunnels.

Marcus was slammed hard against the tiled wall, handcuffs snapping shut around his wrists as he screamed curses into the empty air.
