Chapter 18 - The Gathering Storm

The following forty-eight hours were a blur of tactical mobilization.

The Westchester estate transformed from a quiet family home back into a hardened military redoubt. Enforcers were recalled from every eastern seaboard outpost; sniper nests were established along the tree line; and the subterranean bunker was stocked with enough ammunition and supplies to withstand a month-long siege.

I stood in the underground tactical room late at night, staring at the satellite uplink of Geneva and the incoming flight logs tracking private aviation across the Atlantic.

Elena walked into the bunker quietly, carrying a cup of black coffee. She didn't say a word as she set it down on the steel console beside my keyboard. She looked at the tactical maps, the weapon schematics, and the dark circles under my eyes.

"You're planning to go after him, aren't you?" she asked softly, her voice steady despite the tension in the room.

I looked up, meeting her gaze. "Lorenzo isn't like Colombo or Vance. He won't send proxies or hide behind shell companies. If he’s coming for this estate, he’s coming to finish what he started twenty-five years ago."

"And if he attacks while you're here?"

"Then we turn this property into his grave," I answered without hesitation. "I didn't spend the last three months fighting for my family just to let some ghost from the past take them away."

Elena stepped closer, placing her hand over mine on the steel desk. "Then we fight him together. Lily and I aren't hiding in a closet while you wage war for our lives."

Before I could answer, the primary computer terminal beeped sharply. A red warning banner flashed across the center of the main display monitor.

“Perimeter sensor breach. Sector Four. North Gate.”

Marco burst through the bunker doors, his rifle raised. "Boss! They didn't wait for us to come to them. A heavily armed assault team just breached the northern perimeter!"
