Chapter 2 - THE SYSTEMIC RECKONING

The Executive Floor PanicsUp on the twenty-third floor, Richard Caldwell was pouring himself a glass of twenty-year-old scotch. The sky-high corner office offered a panoramic view of the city—a view he believed he was destined to rule.
His phone buzzed. It was not a call, but a automated alert from the building’s master management portal:
NOTICE OF EVICTION & LEASE TERMINATION:
Tenant: Caldwell, Pierce & Bennett LLP.
Reason: Violation of Good Neighbor & Corporate Conduct Clauses (Section 14-B).
Vacate Date: 7 Days from Notice.
Richard choked on his drink. Before he could dial property management, his door burst open. His managing partners, Marcus Pierce and Arthur Bennett, rushed in, their faces pale, holding their tablets.
“Richard, what the hell did your wife just do?!” Marcus yelled, slamming a tablet onto the glass desk.
On the screen was a live-trending video on Facebook with over 1.2 million views in less than forty minutes. The headline read: “Billionaire Philanthropist doused in wine by arrogant lawyer’s wife at luxury restaurant.”
Richard stared at the video in horror. There was Vanessa, screaming at an elderly woman in a beige coat. There was his son throwing food. And there was Vanessa, dumping a full glass of red cabernet over the face of Eleanor Whitmore—the very woman whose non-profit trust funded eighty percent of the municipal development grants that kept their law firm profitable.
“She... she didn’t know who she was,” Richard stammered, his sweat cold against his tailored collar.
“It doesn’t matter what she knew!” Arthur Bennett roared. “The Whitmore Foundation just pulled their legal retainer! That’s sixty percent of our firm’s annual revenue gone in one text message! And now we have seven days to clear out of this building! Our clients are calling right now to cancel their contracts because they don't want to be associated with this level of toxic entitlement!”
Richard’s cell phone rang again. This time it was Vanessa, sobbing uncontrollably from the back of an Uber.

“Richard! You have to do something!” she wailed. “The manager was so rude! He had security push me out! And everyone was filming! You need to sue them all! You need to ruin that old woman!”
“Shut up!” Richard screamed into the phone, losing his composure for the first time in his twenty-year career. “Shut your mouth, Vanessa! Do you have any idea who you poured that wine on?! You just destroyed our entire life!”
