CHAPTER 1 — THE LETTER THAT SILENCED THE ROOFTOP

The porcelain plate shattered across the marble floor.
The sound echoed through the luxurious rooftop restaurant overlooking the glowing city skyline, instantly silencing dozens of wealthy guests enjoying their expensive dinners beneath the golden sunset.
Everyone turned.
A skinny girl, no older than fifteen, stood frozen beside one of the VIP tables.
Her faded blue dress had been stitched together so many times that it was impossible to tell its original color. Her shoes were worn nearly through. Her hands trembled as she stared at the broken pieces scattered across the floor.
The waiter gasped.
The restaurant manager rushed over.
Before anyone else could speak, laughter erupted from the table.
Seated there was Ethan Caldwell, the eighteen-year-old son of one of the city's richest businessmen.
He slowly leaned back in his chair, crossed his arms, and smirked.
"That plate costs more than your entire outfit."
His wealthy friends burst into uncontrollable laughter.
Phones quietly appeared.
Some guests even started recording.
The girl lowered her eyes.
She didn't defend herself.
She didn't cry.
Instead...
She carefully reached inside her pocket.
Everyone expected her to pull out money she didn't have.
Instead...
She pulled out an old yellow envelope.
The paper was creased, worn, and carefully protected by plastic.
She held it toward Ethan with shaking fingers.
"My mother..."
Her voice barely escaped.
"...told me to give this to you."
The laughter slowly disappeared.
Something about the handwriting froze Ethan instantly.
His confident smile vanished.
His fingers hesitated before touching the envelope.
The moment he recognized the handwriting...
His face turned ghost white.
"No..."
he whispered.
"That's impossible."
The girl swallowed painfully.
"My mother said you would recognize it."
The rooftop became so quiet that even the wind seemed to stop.
With trembling hands...
Ethan opened the envelope.
Inside lay only two things.
An old photograph.
And a folded letter.
He looked at the photo first.
His heartbeat stopped.
Standing there...
Twenty years younger...
was his father.
Holding a tiny baby girl wrapped inside a pink blanket.
Behind them stood a smiling young woman Ethan had never seen before.
The baby...
looked exactly like the girl standing in front of him now.
The girl slowly lifted tear-filled eyes toward Ethan.
"My mom said..."
"...you're my brother."
The entire rooftop froze.
No one laughed anymore.
Not a single person moved.

And Ethan suddenly realized...
everything he'd ever believed about his family might have been a lie.
