Three weeks later, the courtroom of the Connecticut Family Division was packed to maximum capacity. The media had been banned from the interior, but the hallway outside was lined with cameras.

Merrick Thornwell sat at the defense table, flanked by four of the highest-paid family lawyers in the country. He looked exhausted, deep circles bruising the skin under his eyes. Across the room sat Tinsley, wearing a pristine black suit, her eyes fixed on the judge, acting the part of the supportive, wronged wife perfectly for the sketch artists.

On the other side of the aisle sat Lennox. She wore a simple, tailored navy dress. She looked tired, but her posture was regal. Next to her sat no high-priced legal team—only Catherine Evans and a man in a gray suit who had remained completely silent since the proceedings began.

"Your Honor," Merrick’s lead attorney stood up, his voice filling the room with practiced authority. "My client is seeking immediate, temporary full custody of the four minor children currently residing with the petitioner, Lennox Hargrove. We have provided ample evidence that Ms. Hargrove’s current residence—a two-bedroom cottage—is entirely inadequate for the care of quadruplets. Furthermore, we have evidence that the petitioner willfully concealed the pregnancy during the mediation phase of their divorce to secure a strategic emotional advantage."

The judge looked over his glasses at Lennox. "Ms. Hargrove, you are representing yourself today?"

Before Lennox could speak, the man in the gray suit next to her stood up.

"Actually, Your Honor, she is not," the man said. His voice was quiet, but it carried an undeniable weight that made Merrick’s lead lawyer suddenly halt.

Merrick frowned, staring at the man. "Who the hell is that?" he muttered to his attorney.

The lawyer’s face had gone completely pale. "Oh no... that’s Arthur Vance."

"Who is Arthur Vance?" Merrick demanded.

"He’s the chief legal counsel for the Hargrove Estate," the lawyer whispered, his hands beginning to shake. "Merrick... your ex-wife’s maiden name... we thought her family was just middle-class designers from upstate. We didn't check her maternal grandfather's lineage."

Arthur Vance stepped into the center of the courtroom, opening a leather briefcase. "Your Honor, my client did not conceal her pregnancy for an emotional advantage. She concealed it for her own physical safety and the safety of her unborn children, due to the intense, documented psychological harassment she faced from the Thornwell family during her marriage. Furthermore, the claim that she is financially unfit is not only laughably false, but it constitutes defamation."

Vance pulled out a certified financial document, bearing a gold historical crest.

"Lennox Hargrove is the sole remaining heir to the Hargrove-Vanderbilt shipping trust, which was held in an unassailable blind escrow until her thirtieth birthday—which occurred exactly two days before she gave birth," Vance stated, his voice ringing with absolute clarity. "Her personal net worth as of this morning stands at three hundred and fifty million dollars. She does not live in a cottage because she is poor, Your Honor. She lives there because she prefers peace over ostentation."

A collective gasp echoed through the courtroom. Merrick stood up so fast his chair flew backward. "What? That’s impossible! She never spent a dime! She lived off my allowance!"

"Because she didn't want your money, Merrick," Lennox said, speaking for the first time. She looked directly at him, her eyes completely cold. "I wanted a husband. I wanted a family. But you were so blinded by your own arrogance, so obsessed with your 'legacy,' that you never even bothered to look at who I actually was."

"Silence in the court!" the judge slammed his gavel down violently. "Mr. Thornwell, sit down or I will hold you in contempt!"

Arthur Vance smiled coldly. "We are not finished, Your Honor. We have also submitted a cross-petition this morning. We are requesting a permanent restraining order against Merrick Thornwell and Tinsley Thornwell. And we are submitting this into the record."

Vance pulled out a digital audio recorder and a stack of printed emails.

"These are the certified forensic recoveries from the Boston Fertility Clinic," Vance said, turning to look directly at Tinsley, whose face had suddenly turned a ghostly shade of grey. "They contain the direct wire transfer records from Tinsley Vaughn’s personal bank account to the clinic director, alongside an audio recording of Ms. Vaughn threatening the clinic staff to ensure Lennox Hargrove's positive pregnancy results were deleted from the database prior to the divorce finalization."

"That's illegal wiretapping!" Tinsley shrieked, standing up, her manicured fingers clawing at the air. "You can't use that!"

"It was provided voluntarily by the clinic director, who has just turned state’s evidence to avoid jail time for medical fraud," Vance replied smoothly.

The judge looked at the documents, his face hardening into a expression of pure fury. He looked down at Merrick, then at Tinsley.

"This court is adjourned for one hour," the judge said, his voice shaking with anger. "During which time, I am contacting the District Attorney’s office. Mr. Thornwell, Ms. Vaughn... do not attempt to leave this building."
