Chapter 5 - The Snake in the Tower

Back at Cárdenas Tower, the atmosphere was suffocating. Rodrigo had moved Carmen Salgado to his private penthouse medical suite, guarded by twenty elite security personnel.

In the high-tech conference room, Rodrigo sat at the head of the glass table. Beside him sat Elena, her knuckles white as she held a cup of tea. Across from them stood Valeria Ramos—Rodrigo’s senior vice president and his late wife’s closest friend.

Valeria looked immaculate in her cream-colored suit, though her eyes darted nervously toward the security guards stationed at every exit.

"Rodrigo, this is absurd," Valeria said, her voice laced with feigned offense. "You bring me here at two in the morning because some low-level maid’s apartment was broken into? You're letting your grief warp your judgment again."

"Sit down, Valeria," Rodrigo said, his voice terrifyingly calm.

He slid a black USB drive across the table.

"This drive was taken off the gunman Mateo captured at the hospital," Rodrigo continued. "It contains encrypted wire transfers originating from a Swiss bank account. An account registered under your mother’s maiden name."

Valeria’s posture stiffened. "That's a fabrication!"

"Is it?" Elena spoke up, her voice rising with sudden strength. She laid out three old photographs on the table. "Three years ago, when the car went over the cliff at Cabo... you were the one who hired the private boat that was waiting two miles offshore. You didn't just help stage the accident—you stole the child!"

Rodrigo leaned forward, his dark eyes burning into Valeria. "Where is my daughter, Valeria? If she is alive... where is she?"

Valeria let out a bitter, cold laugh that echoed through the glass room. The polished facade broke away, revealing a twisted smile.

"You really don't see it, do you, Rodrigo?" Valeria sneered. "You were so blinded by your empire, so obsessed with building your 'tower of steel,' that you never saw what was right under your nose!"

She pointed a long finger directly at Elena.

"Ask her!" Valeria hissed. "Ask your precious little maid who raised that baby for the last three years!"
