Chapter 2 - The Clause in the Contract"A contract?" Lucas echoed, his eyes widening in confusion.

"Everything has a price, son," Thomas said, walking back to his desk and pulling out a pristine piece of heavy-stock corporate letterhead and a heavy fountain pen. "You offered your assets. I am accepting them. But equity requires terms."

Lucas watched, mesmerized and terrified, as Thomas began writing furiously on the paper.

"Mr. Laurent, I don't know how to sign legal papers. I'm eight," Lucas said, his voice cracking.

"You're an entrepreneur, Lucas. Scale doesn't matter," Thomas replied without looking up. He slid the paper across the mahogany table along with the pen.

At the top, written in sharp, elegant calligraphy, was: THE LAURENT-EVANS BINDING ACCORD.

The terms were laid out in three rigid bullet points:

Party A (Lucas Evans) relinquishes ownership of one (1) battle-scarred teddy bear named Mr. Buttons, three (3) toy cars of variable structural integrity, and four dollars and eighty-two cents (USD).

Party B (Thomas Laurent) agrees to grant Clara Evans forty-eight (48) consecutive hours of paid leave, starting immediately, with zero loss of seniority, benefits, or wage.

Addendum: Party A must report to the Executive Suite every Saturday for four weeks to audit Party B’s internal operations, fulfilling the remainder of the purchase price through labor.

Lucas stared at the paper. "Audit operations? What does that mean?"

"It means you have to help me sort my mail, eat my extra donuts, and tell me whether my ideas are stupid or not," Thomas said smoothly, extending the pen. "Sign on the dotted line, CEO Lucas."

Lucas gripped the heavy metal pen. With agonizing concentration, he pressed down, scrawling his name in clumsy, uneven block letters: L-U-C-A-S E-V-A-N-S.

As the ink dried, a sharp chime echoed from the wall-mounted intercom.

“Mr. Laurent,” Sarah’s voice crackled through the speaker, tight with panic. “You have an urgent security breach notification on Floor Seventeen. Sector Four. It’s... it’s about Clara Evans. You need to look at the CCTV feed right now.”

Thomas’s head snapped toward the intercom. The playful, calculating glint in his eye vanished instantly, replaced by absolute ice.

"Put it on the main screen," Thomas commanded.

The massive wall behind the conference table flickered from a live financial chart of global stock exchanges to a high-definition security camera feed.

The image showed Sector Four: the subterranean chemical storage and heavy-duty janitorial wing of Laurent Enterprises. A section of the industrial shelving unit—stacked twenty feet high with industrial solvent drums and heavy waxing equipment—was visibly leaning at a dangerous forty-five-degree angle.

And right underneath it, trapped against the wall by a fallen metal cart, was Clara Evans.
