Chapter 7 - The Digital MutinyThe glass shattered in a sparkling shower across the concrete floor. Thomas grabbed the heavy iron lever and yanked it upward with a roar of pure exertion.

WHIRRRRRR—!

The entire sub-level shuddered. The institutional white lights flickered, buzzed, and died, plunging Sector Four into pitch blackness save for the emerald green glow of emergency floor strips.

Simultaneously, across the entire seventy-story glass monolith of Laurent Enterprises upstairs, every single computer monitor, digital stock ticker, and conference room display flashed off.

In the executive boardroom, where Jonathan Sterling and his co-conspirators were pouring celebratory glasses of scotch, the massive wall screen flickered back to life.

Instead of stock charts, the screen displayed a single, massive live data feed: The Master Ledger of Project Clean-Sweep.

"What is this?!" Sterling shouted, knocking his crystal glass onto the polished walnut table as the liquid spread like blood across the wood. "Who bypassed the firewall? Cut the feed! CUT IT!"

"We can't, sir!" a frantic IT technician screamed from the corner, typing furiously on his laptop. "The override didn't come from an external hack. It came from the sub-level emergency terminal. Thomas... Thomas has root access to the central banking vault!"

On the screen, a secondary window opened. It wasn't a document; it was a live video feed streaming directly from Thomas’s encrypted phone.

Thomas’s face filled the boardroom screens across every floor of the tower—crisp, illuminated by the green emergency lights, standing side-by-side with a scruffy eight-year-old boy holding a battered teddy bear.

"Good afternoon, gentlemen," Thomas’s voice boomed through the building’s public address system, echoing through every hallway, office, and lobby. "This is Thomas Laurent. Effective immediately, the board of directors is suspended under Section 4 of the Corporate Treason Act."

"He's bluffing!" Sterling roared into a desk microphone. "Security! Secure the sub-level! Arrest him!"

"You can't arrest the majority shareholder, Jonathan," Thomas replied smoothly on the live feed. He reached down, took the plastic coin box from Lucas’s hand, and held it up to the camera. "Especially when I just acquired controlling equity in this firm for four dollars and eighty-two cents, backed by a very legally binding contract."

In the boardroom, Sterling clutched his chest, gasping for air as the realization struck him. The contract Lucas had signed wasn't just a child's game—Thomas had structured it under an obscure corporate loophole that allowed asset swaps to override board vetoes during an active emergency declaration.

"You're ruined," Sterling whispered, staring blankly at the screen. "You're destroying the family name."

"My father built a dynasty on graves," Thomas replied, his voice echoing with absolute finality. "I'm tearing it down to build a foundation."
