Chapter 7 - Smoke and BulletsChaos in the ClubThe air instantly filled with thick, choking white smoke as a series of flashbangs detonated in the main lobby downstairs. Shouts, screams, and the frantic clatter of running footsteps filled the cavernous space.

“Connor Bell’s cleaners!” Gabriel cursed, grabbing my arm and pulling me behind a thick marble pillar as a volley of submachine gun fire chewed through the glass paneling above our heads.
Across the mezzanine, Daniel used the cover of the smoke and gunfire to bolt toward the private exit stairs leading down to the docks.
“He’s getting away!” I shouted over the deafening roar of gunfire.
“Stay here!” Gabriel ordered, pressing me deeper into the alcove behind the marble pillar. “Keep your gun up and don't move!”
Before I could protest, Gabriel vaulted over the glass railing, dropping ten feet down onto the plush carpet of the main lounge below, disappearing into the swirling gray smoke in pursuit of Daniel.
I pressed my back against the cold stone pillar, my breathing coming in shallow, ragged gasps. My ribs throbbed fiercely, protesting every movement, but my grip on the Glock remained steady. Through the swirling haze of smoke, two of Bell’s armed thugs emerged onto the mezzanine, sweeping their assault rifles back and forth, searching for targets.
I raised my pistol, took a deep breath, and squeezed the trigger twice.

The first shot caught the lead gunman in the shoulder, spinning him around; the second dropped his companion instantly. They hit the floor with dull thuds.
Stepping over the fallen guards, I rushed toward the private exit stairs where Daniel had escaped. The hunt was reaching its bloody climax, and I wasn't going to miss the end.
