CHAPTER 5 — THE SECRET THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

That evening, as workers celebrated the village's reopening, Kareem sat alone beneath the same ancient olive tree where he had once played as a boy.
Layla joined him.
"You've barely spoken all day," she said.
He stared into the distance.
"I've been trying to understand you."
She smiled faintly.
"Have you?"
Before he could answer, Omar, the palace security chief, hurried toward them.
"Your Majesty... we have a problem."
"What happened?"
"We investigated the trust your wife created."
"And?"
"It wasn't only funded with your money."
Kareem frowned.
"What do you mean?"
Omar handed him another folder.
Bank records.
Personal transfers.
Receipts.
Layla had secretly sold nearly everything she owned before the wedding.
Her childhood home.
Her jewelry.
Her mother's farmland.
Her late father's fishing boat.
Every possession.
Another three hundred thousand dollars.
Added to the Sheikh's million.
Kareem slowly looked up.
"You never told me."
"You never asked."
"Why would you risk everything?"
Layla looked toward the children playing in the distance.
"When I was ten years old, my father lost everything after a flood destroyed our village."
"No one came."
"No rich family."
"No ruler."
"No miracle."
"I promised myself that if I ever had the chance to rebuild someone else's home..."
"...I would."
Kareem lowered his head.
For years he had believed his test revealed the character of his wives.
Now he wondered whether the test had revealed something about himself instead.
That night he couldn't sleep.
He walked through the newly restored village alone.
Everywhere he went, people smiled.
Not because they feared him.
Because they finally had clean water.
Electricity.
Jobs.
A future.
For the first time in his life...
The richest man in the kingdom realized there were things money had never bought him.
Respect.
May you like
Gratitude.
Peace.
