Chapter 10 - The Ultimate TwistLater that afternoon, sitting in Alexander’s private home office while Sofi napped, I opened a forgotten leather-bound portfolio I had brought with me from my old apartment in Los Angeles—documents my mother had handed down before our relationship fractured.

Inside was an old family photograph of my grandmother, standing outside a modest bakery in Chicago decades ago.
Behind her, captured in the background of the black-and-white image, was a young, smiling Arthur Vance—Alexander’s grandfather.
I stared at the photograph in stunned silence.
The door opened, and Alexander walked in, holding two cups of coffee. He stopped when he saw the photo in my hands, his eyes widening as he recognized his grandfather's youthful face.
"Emily... where did you find this?" he asked breathlessly.
"My grandmother," I whispered, my heart hammering against my ribs. "She never told me who my grandfather was. She always said he was a wealthy man from Chicago who vanished before she knew she was pregnant."
Alexander walked over, dropping to his knees beside my chair. He looked at the photograph, then up at me, a slow, disbelieving laugh escaping his lips.
"My grandfather spent the last twenty years of his life searching for his first love—the woman he lost before he inherited the company," Alexander whispered, his eyes shining with awe. "He called her Emily."
The room fell completely silent. The universe, it seemed, had not brought us together by random chance on a late-night flight from Los Angeles.
It had been writing our story all along.

Alexander reached out, taking my hand, intertwining his fingers with mine.
"Looks like," he smiled softly, "we were always meant to find each other."
