Chapter 6 - The Reunion in the ParkTwo weeks later, Liam brought Riley to a secluded park bench under the cover of dusk. He had told her they were going to see a ‘friend.’

He saw her walking toward them. The real Amelia. She looked frail, her hair thin, her face gaunt, but it was her—the woman he had mourned for a year.

Riley saw her and didn't scream this time. She just stopped, her small body trembling.

Amelia knelt, tears streaming down her face. “My sweet girl.”

Liam stayed back, the rage and the grief warring in his chest. He watched his wife—his traitorous, beautiful, dying wife—hold their daughter.

“Why?” Liam asked, his voice shaking.

Amelia looked up at him, her honey eyes filled with agony. “They threatened you, Liam. They told me if I didn't leave, they’d destroy your company and take Riley. I did it to save you both. I’ve been watching from the shadows for a year, dying slowly, just to make sure you were safe.”
