Chapter 10 - Shadows in the BoardroomWhile peace settled over the Westchester estate, the corporate and criminal underworld of New York was boiling.

In the executive boardroom of Cross Logistics, Dante slammed a thick manila folder onto the mahogany table. Gabriel sat at the head of the table, his expression carved from stone as he examined the surveillance photographs inside.
“Vance is out of the picture, Boss,” Dante reported grimly. “His syndicate in Brooklyn has completely fractured. But someone else is moving in to pick up the pieces. Look at page four.”
Gabriel flipped the page.
The photograph showed a sleek, private tarmac at JFK Airport. A tall, impeccably tailored man with silver-streaked hair and cold blue eyes was stepping down from a Gulfstream jet.
Arthur Sterling.
The name sent a chilling ripple through Gabriel’s memory. Sterling was the head of the European shipping cartel—a man who operated with corporate legitimacy on the surface while laundering billions through international logistics fronts. He was far more dangerous, far wealthier, and far more patient than Viktor Vance ever hoped to be.
“He’s auditing our European terminals,” Dante said, his voice dropping. “And word on the street is, he’s asking questions about your personal life. Specifically... about the boys and Claire.”
Gabriel closed the folder with a sharp, heavy thud that rattled the water glasses on the table.
“He wants to test me,” Gabriel said softly, the lethal, quiet danger returning to his eyes. “He thinks because I’ve spent the last month playing father in Westchester, I’ve gone soft.”

“What’s your play, Boss?” Dante asked, resting his hand near his concealed holster.
“My play?” Gabriel stood up, buttoning his suit jacket. “I’m going to show Mr. Sterling exactly what happens when a wolf protects his den.”
