Chapter 14 - The Strike in the Dark“Gabriel,” Claire gasped, grabbing his arm as he turned around.

“Claire, what is it? You’re shaking,” Gabriel demanded, his hands instantly rising to steady her shoulders, his protective instincts flaring to life.

Gabriel’s face went deadly cold. The ambient noise of the ballroom seemed to mute entirely.
“Dante,” Gabriel commanded without breaking eye contact with Claire.

“Secure them in the Maybach. Bring them and Claire to the Westchester estate immediately. I’ll meet you there after I finish this.”
“Gabriel, no!” Claire cried out, grabbing his lapel. “It’s a suicide mission! Sterling has an army down there!”

“Listen to me, Claire,” Gabriel said, his gray-green eyes burning with absolute, terrifying resolve. “I let you walk away once. I let five years slip through my fingers because I was arrogant. I am not losing you or my sons to a glorified accountant from Europe.”
He pressed a quick, fierce kiss to her lips before turning and sprinting toward the private service elevator, drawing his Beretta from his holster as the doors slid open.
