Chapter 1 - THE BLOODLINE SECRETS (PART 2)

The silence in the grand hall was no longer just quiet—it was suffocating. The air felt thick, heavy with the stench of long-buried sins returning to claim their debt.

The father, Marcus Vance, stayed frozen on one knee. His eyes, usually sharp enough to cut through boardroom rivals, were wide, bloodshot, and fixed on the faded photograph resting in the girl’s trembling palm. The golden light from the chandelier above glinted off the image of a younger Marcus—smiling, vibrant, and holding a newborn baby with a distinctive crescent-shaped birthmark on her left wrist.

Marcus slowly lowered his gaze to the little girl’s arm. Her oversized sweater sleeve had pulled back slightly as she gathered the cake crumbs.

There it was. A crescent birthmark.

“No…” Marcus whispered, his voice cracking like glass under pressure. His face had turned the color of ash. “No, this… this is impossible. She died. Elena died six years ago!”

The crowd of high-society guests exchanged frantic, breathless glances. Phone screens flashed in the dimming light of the hall as hundreds of live streams recorded every agonizing second. Comments were pouring in by the tens of thousands per second on social media:

“IS THIS REAL?!”

“MARCUS VANCE HAS A SECRET DAUGHTER?!”

“WHO IS ELENA?!”

“She didn’t die, Mr. Vance,” the girl said softly. Her name was Lily, though no one in that room knew it yet. She didn’t cry. She didn’t scream. Her stillness was far more terrifying than any outburst. “She spent six years in the cold while you built this palace on top of our house.”

The birthday boy, Leo, stepped back, his expensive clothes suddenly feeling like a trap. The cruel smile he had worn seconds ago was completely gone, replaced by confusion and a growing, primal fear. “Dad… what is she talking about? Tell her to leave! She ruined my party! She’s lying!”

“Shut up, Leo!” Marcus roared, turning his head so fast his neck popped. The violence in his voice silenced the entire room instantly. Leo recoiled, shocked—his father had never raised his voice at him in his life.

Marcus turned back to Lily, his hands hovering over hers, afraid to touch her as if she were made of smoke that might disappear. “Where is she? Where is your mother?”

Lily reached back into her small jacket pocket. She pulled out a second item—a folded piece of yellowed legal paper stamped with a red seal that bore the crest of Vance Enterprises.

“She’s waiting outside,” Lily whispered. “In the rain.”

Outside, thunder crashed across the sky, shaking the floorboards beneath their feet. The heavy glass doors at the entrance of the mansion slowly swung open. A gust of freezing wind blew into the warm, scented hall, extinguishing the candles on the giant cake one by one.

Standing in the doorway was a woman wrapped in a thin, worn coat, soaked through with rain. Her face was pale, thin, and hollowed by years of suffering, but her posture was straight, unyielding, and dangerous.

It was Elena.

And in her hand, she wasn't holding a begging bowl. She was holding a remote control wired to a device hidden underneath her coat.

“Happy birthday, Leo,” Elena said, her voice echoing through the silent mansion like a death sentence. “You got your father’s eyes. But today, you’re going to learn what those eyes were bought with.”
