Chapter 4 - THE TWISTED WILL (PART 5)

The audio recording was the final nail in the coffin. Outside, tactical police teams kicked open the front oak doors, their assault rifles drawn and spotlights sweeping across the ballroom.

“FBI! EVERYONE ON THE GROUND!” heavily armed officers roared, storming the hall.

Marcus fell to his knees, his hands locked behind his head, his empire collapsing into dust around him in a matter of seconds. Victoria dropped her weapon on the balcony and raised her hands, her stoic demeanor finally shattering as hand-cuffs clicked around her wrists.

Leo was sobbing in the corner, clutching his broken birthday cake, ignored by everyone as the elite world he knew dissolved into chaos.

Elena walked slowly toward Marcus. The police officers cleared a path for her, recognizing that she was the primary victim and key witness in a federal sting operation that had been six years in the making.

“It’s over, Marcus,” Elena said, looking down at the man who had ruined her life. “You lost.”

Marcus looked up, his eyes wild, unhinged, and desperate. But then, to everyone’s shock, he began to laugh. A bitter, maniacal laugh that echoed through the police radios.

“You think you won, Elena?” Marcus spat, blood leaking from a small cut on his forehead caused by the falling glass. “You think this was about money? You think this was about the estate?”

Elena paused, her eyes narrowing. “What are you talking about?”

Marcus leaned closer, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper that only Elena and Lily could hear. “Check the legal papers, Elena. Check the original Thorne family trust. You were never Arthur Thorne’s biological daughter.”

Elena froze. The breath left her lungs. “What?”

“Arthur Thorne adopted you when you were two years old,” Marcus sneered, a twisted smile spreading across his face despite his handcuffs. “He hid it from you your entire life. He had another child—a legal, blood-born heir that he abandoned before he married your mother. An heir he left everything to in a secret, irrevocable sealed will stored in the Swiss Federal Vaults.”

Elena stared at him, her heart hammering against her ribs. “You’re lying. You’re just trying to hurt me one last time.”

“Am I?” Marcus grinned. “Why do you think I needed to marry into the Senator’s family? Why do you think I was so desperate to take this house? I wasn’t trying to steal it from you, Elena. I was trying to hold it before the real heir came back to claim it!”

Lily stepped forward, her voice soft and piercing. “Who is the real heir?”

Marcus turned his gaze to the little girl. The grin vanished from his face, replaced by an expression of pure, unadulterated horror.

“Look at the photograph again, Elena,” Marcus whispered, his voice trembling violently. “Look at the baby in the picture.”
