Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Choice (The Climax & Twist)The bedroom was empty. The window was shattered, glass glittering across the hardwood floor like diamonds in the moonlight.

On the bed lay a single, neatly folded piece of white paper—identical to the resume Emma had brought months ago.
Lucas walked over, his hands trembling slightly as he picked it up. Written in sharp, unfamiliar handwriting were words that made his blood freeze:
If you want to see the child alive, meet me at the old docks at midnight alone. Bring the encryption keys to your entire empire. No guards. No guns. — Elena.
Lucas stared at the paper. For the first time in his life, the invincible Mafia boss felt completely powerless. He had built walls of steel, armed an army, and conquered the underworld, but none of it mattered. Because an eight-year-old girl who wore an oversized apron to save her mother had become his entire world.
He folded the paper, slipped it into his pocket, and walked back out into the ruined hallway where Harold was waiting, bleeding from a graze on his shoulder.
"Boss, we tracked the signal. They took her to Pier 49," Harold gasped. "We’re assembling the full strike team—"
"No," Lucas interrupted, his voice absolute, cold, and final. "This is between me and her."
"Boss, it's a suicide mission! Elena wants you dead!"
"I know," Lucas said, calmly checking the magazine of his pistol and sliding it into his shoulder holster. He looked out the shattered window toward the dark, turbulent sea. "That’s why she’s going to get what she wants."
Epilogue: The Unexpected QueenThe old docks at Pier 49 smelled of salt, rusted iron, and impending death.
Rain began to drizzle once more as Lucas Blackwood stepped out of the shadows onto the open concrete platform. In the center stood Elena, holding a small, trembling Emma by the hand. Emma’s eyes were wide with terror, her little hands clutching the oversized apron she still occasionally wore like a badge of honor.
"You came," Elena smiled triumphantly, stepping forward with a pistol pressed lightly against Emma's temple. "I knew it. Beneath all that armor, you're still just a soft-hearted fool."
"Let the child go, Elena," Lucas said, stopping ten paces away, his hands raised palms up to show he was unarmed. "She has nothing to do with this."
"She has everything to do with this," Elena hissed. "She's your weakness. And in our world, weakness must be eradicated."
Elena cocked her pistol. "Say goodbye to your surrogate daughter, Lucas."
Emma closed her eyes, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. "Mister Blackwood... I'm sorry..."
Lucas didn't flinch. Instead, a slow, cold smile crept across his lips.
"You think she's my weakness, Elena?" Lucas’s voice echoed sharply across the empty pier. "You still don't understand how this game is played."
Elena frowned, hesitating for a fraction of a second. "What are you talking about?"
"I didn't come alone," Lucas said softly.
Suddenly, the spotlights of a dozen sniper rifles mounted on the high cranes above Pier 49 snapped on, blindingly bright, turning the night into broad daylight.
From every container stack, shadow, and rusted corner, dozens of red laser dots locked instantly onto Elena and her men.
Elena’s face drained of color. "No... my men swept the perimeter! How?!"
Step by step, someone emerged from behind a shipping crate. It wasn't Harold.
It was Clara Carter.
She wasn't wearing her housekeeping apron. She was wearing a tailored black trench coat, her pale blue-gray eyes—the exact same eyes as Emma’s—cold, sharp, and utterly merciless. In her right hand, she held a customized sniper rifle, the smoking barrel pointed directly at Elena’s heart.
Elena stared at Clara in sheer horror. "You... you're just a sick maid! You were dying!"
Clara smiled—a terrifying, predatory smile that bore a striking, chilling resemblance to Lucas Blackwood himself.
"Chemical neurotoxins are easy to fake when you're the one who formulated them ten years ago, Elena," Clara's voice rang out, steady and lethal. "And as for the maid disguise... every good queen needs to inspect the board before she checks the king."
Elena gasped, realizing the catastrophic truth too late, but before she could pull her trigger on Emma, Clara’s rifle cracked through the night air.
Bang.
Elena stumbled backward, dropping her weapon as she collapsed onto the wet concrete.
Emma opened her eyes, gasping as Lucas instantly lunged forward, sweeping her up into his arms and pulling her tightly against his chest, shielding her eyes from the sight.
"You're safe, Emma," Lucas whispered into her hair, his own heart pounding furiously as he buried his face against her small shoulder. "You're safe."
Emma buried her face in his neck, her tiny arms wrapping around his muscular shoulders just like they had on that rainy day in his study. "I knew you'd come, Mister Blackwood."
A few feet away, Clara walked over, looking down at the fallen enemy before turning her gaze to Lucas and the little girl. She adjusted her trench coat, a warm, genuine smile breaking through her cold exterior.
"Come on home, Boss," Clara said softly, holding out her hand. "Dinner is getting cold."
Lucas looked at Clara, then down at the little girl in his arms—the girl who had walked into a fortress of killers and unknowingly conquered an empire.
