Chapter 2 - The Return of the Queen

Three days later, the financial world was rocked by a seismic event.
Inside the glass boardroom of Cole Capital in downtown Dallas, Ethan was staring at his laptop screen, his face completely drained of color. The coffee cup in his hand shook so violently that espresso spilled onto his pristine mahogany desk.
"This is a mistake," Ethan stammered, his voice rising in panic. "This has to be a mistake! Hannah? The girl from rural Virginia? The girl who didn't know the difference between a Pinot Noir and a Cabernet when I met her? She’s a Hartwell?!"
Vanessa Blake rushed into the office, her high heels clicking frantically. Her usual composure was entirely gone. "Ethan! Have you seen the news? The Hartwell Estate just issued a press release. They’ve pulled all their liquidity from Texas commerce. And worse... they just bought out our primary lender, Lone Star Trust!"
Before Ethan could process the words, his desk phone began to ring off the hook. His secretary's voice gasped through the intercom: "Mr. Cole! The board of directors is panicking! Our stock price is plummeting! We are down 15% in pre-market trading!"
Ethan slammed his fist onto the desk. "Get me a meeting with this new chairwoman. Now! If she’s Warren Hartwell’s daughter, she must have some connection to Dallas. I’ll appeal to her business sense. We can offer a partnership!"
"Ethan, look at the screen," Vanessa whispered, her hand trembling as she pointed to the live broadcast of the Hartwell Global press conference in New York.
The camera zoomed in on a majestic, wood-paneled auditorium. Walking up to the podium was a woman flanked by six elite bodyguards. She wore a tailored charcoal Chanel suit, diamond studs, and her hair was swept back in a commanding, elegant style. She looked fierce, unbothered, and blindingly wealthy.
It was Hannah.
She looked directly into the camera lens, as if she were looking straight through the screen and into Ethan’s soul.
"As my first official act as Chairwoman of Hartwell Global," Hannah announced to the room of flashing cameras, "I am reviewing all outstanding commercial loans and real estate investments held by our newly acquired banking subsidiaries. We will no longer support unethical businesses that exploit families. Effective at noon today, Hartwell Global is calling in all debts."
Ethan felt the room spin. Cole Capital owed Lone Star Trust over $400 million in short-term bridge loans for their newest luxury skyscraper development.
"She's going to liquidate us," Ethan whispered, the horrifying realization finally setting in. "She didn't cheat on me. She went to New York to claim a kingdom."
