Chapter 6 - The Breaking PointBy evening, the corporate storm had passed, leaving the penthouse quiet once more. But the physical toll on Caleb was catastrophic.

As soon as we returned to the estate, Caleb collapsed onto the living room sofa, gasping for air, his face pale as ash. His legs were shaking with violent, involuntary spasms from the hours of forced walking.

"Caleb, let me check your spine," I said urgently, kneeling beside him.

"Leave it, Emily," he groaned, burying his face in his hands. "Just... leave me alone."

"I am your nurse, not your servant. You pushed your lumbar spine ten times past its safe threshold today. You could have caused permanent nerve damage!"

"And if I hadn't, I would have lost everything!" Caleb suddenly shouted, snapping his head up. His blue eyes blazed with a desperate, tormented fire. "My company, my legacy, my entire life! Do you think I care about a slipped disc when my entire world was being stolen out from under me?"

"Yes! Because what good is a company if you destroy your body in the process?" I yelled back, my own frustration boiling over. "You think you're invincible, Caleb, but you're human! You're breaking yourself in half to prove something to everyone else!"

He stared at me, breathing heavily. The anger drained out of him as quickly as it had ignited, leaving behind a profound, crushing exhaustion.

"Why do you care so much, Emily?" he asked softly, his voice trembling. "Every other nurse took their paycheck and ran. You fight me, you scream at me, you push me harder than anyone in my life ever has... why?"

I looked down at his hands, then back into his eyes.

"Because underneath all the arrogance, the glassware throwing, and the billionaire armor... there's a man who refuses to give up. And I don't quit on people who fight."

Caleb reached out, his hand trembling slightly, and gently touched my wrist. His thumb brushed against my skin in a gesture so tender it made my breath catch.

"Stay with me tonight," he whispered.
