Chapter 13 - THE CYPRUS CONNECTION

The private jet sliced through the midnight clouds somewhere over the Atlantic, its cabin bathed in the dim, amber glow of recessed lighting. Inside, the atmosphere was thick with intense preparation. Spread across the walnut conference table were financial manifests, shell company schematics, and decrypted satellite intercepts pointing directly to a heavily fortified villa in the hills outside Limassol, Cyprus—the financial nerve center of Pyotr Voronov’s global money-laundering operation.

Dante sat across from Mateo, checking the magazine of his custom Sig Sauer P226, while Clara stood over a digital terminal, her fingers flying across the keyboard with the speed and precision of a seasoned hacker.

"The villa is protected by private security contractors—former Spetsnaz operatives who don’t ask questions and shoot on sight," Mateo warned, tapping a finger against a blueprint of the sprawling Mediterranean estate. "If we hit the main gate, we’ll trigger a lockdown that will wipe the servers before we can even reach the basement vault."

"We aren't hitting the main gate," Clara said without looking up from her screen.

Dante looked up, raising an eyebrow. "Then how do we get inside a fortress guarded by elite mercenaries?"

"Through the costume department," Clara deadpanned, finally looking up with a mischievous sparkle in her dark eyes. "Or more accurately, through the annual Venetian masquerade gala being hosted at the luxury hotel adjacent to Voronov’s estate tomorrow night. Every high-ranking financial officer, money launderer, and Bratva associate in Cyprus will be attending wearing formal Venetian masks and period-accurate velvet cloaks."

Mateo blinked, staring at her as if she had lost her mind. "You're proposing we sneak into a high-society masquerade ball surrounded by dozens of armed Russian operatives?"

"No," Clara corrected smoothly. "I'm proposing we are the entertainment troupe hired to perform the opening theatrical tableau for the gala. I’ve already spoofed the credentials, forged the booking contracts, and accessed the backstage loading manifests. By the time Voronov’s security realizes the makeup artists and stage actors carrying heavy wooden prop crates are actually a Moretti hit squad, we’ll already be downloading their entire financial ledger."

Dante stared at her for a long moment, then let out a low, dark chuckle that rumbled in his chest. "God help the man who ever tries to cross you, Clara. You are terrifying."

"I'm practical," she replied, walking over and resting her hands on his shoulders, leaning down to whisper in his ear. "Now, let’s go teach the Butcher of Siberia how a real theater production ends."
