Chapter 16 - THE NEW DYNASTY

Two weeks later, the geopolitical landscape of the international underworld had been radically redrawn. With Pyotr Voronov eliminated and his financial network dismantled piece by piece, the remnants of the Bratva in New York and Europe formally surrendered their territories to the Moretti syndicate. Dante Moretti was no longer just the undisputed king of Manhattan; he was the master of an international trade empire that stretched from the docks of Rotterdam to the shipping lanes of the Mediterranean.
Yet, inside the sprawling, high-security penthouse overlooking Central Park, none of that mattered.
The heavy mahogany doors of the private study were locked. On the large oak desk sat no criminal manifests, no weapons blueprints, and no encrypted satellite phones. Instead, the surface was covered in fabric swatches, theatrical costume designs, sketches of velvet gowns, and architectural blueprints for a brand-new, state-of-the-art Broadway theater in the heart of Times Square—funded entirely by Moretti capital, and owned outright by Clara Higgins.
Clara sat at the desk, wearing a simple black cashmere sweater, a pair of reading glasses perched on the bridge of her nose, furiously sketching a design for a 19th-century velvet stage curtain while chewing thoughtfully on the end of a wooden pencil.
Dante walked in quietly, holding two cups of steaming black coffee. He set one down gently beside her sketches, leaning over her shoulder to inspect the drawing.
"You're going to bankrupt me with all these historical costume requests," Dante murmured, his voice warm and teasing as he wrapped his arms around her neck from behind, pressing a soft kiss against her dark curls.
Clara smiled, leaning back against his chest and resting her pencil down. "Please, Dante. The profits from just one of your cargo ships could fund a Broadway musical for the next decade. Besides, a man who owns half of Manhattan can certainly afford to sponsor his wife’s artistic endeavors."
"Oh, you're much more than my artistic director now, Mrs. Moretti," Dante whispered, turning her chair around so she was facing him, lifting her up effortlessly and setting her down on the edge of the mahogany desk, standing between her knees. "You're my partner, my protector, and the only person on earth who ever had the courage to tell me my suit looked terrible."
Clara laughed—a bright, musical sound that chased away the last lingering shadows of the violent world they had fought so hard to conquer. She reached up, framing his face with her hands, her dark eyes softening with deep, undeniable affection.
"You know, when I walked into your office with rain dripping from my coat and pencils in my hair, I thought I was walking into my grave," she whispered softly.
May you like
"And instead, you walked into your kingdom," Dante replied, his gaze intense, filled with a fierce, unwavering devotion.
Their lips met in a slow, tender, deeply passionate kiss that held the weight of everything they had survived together. There were no guns, no ticking countdown timers, and no enemies waiting in the shadows. There was only the quiet hum of the city outside, the warmth of the room, and the unbreakable bond of a new dynasty forged in fire and blood.
