Chapter 20 - THE FINAL CURTAIN CALL

Three weeks later, the front page of the New York Times carried a small, unremarkables-looking article buried in the Metro section regarding the arrest of an international fugitive tied to a foiled extortion plot in an abandoned hospital—a quiet ending orchestrated by the city’s most efficient legal and political fixers.
Inside the grand private dining room of Moretti’s Manhattan estate, however, the atmosphere was anything but quiet.
The room was filled with laughter, clinking crystal glasses, and the rich aroma of authentic Italian cuisine. Seated around the long mahogany table were Mateo, Leo—now safely running a legitimate graphic design firm downtown—and a handful of trusted inner-circle loyalists. At the head of the table sat Dante, dressed in an immaculate tuxedo, with Clara seated beside him, radiant in a stunning midnight-blue silk gown that shimmered under the warm chandelier light.
Mateo stood up, lifting his crystal flute of champagne toward the head of the table with a wide grin.
"To Dante and Clara," Mateo announced loudly, catching the attention of everyone in the room. "To the king and queen of New York, who proved once and for all that you don't mess with a Moretti—and you certainly never mess with a Broadway costumer."
Laughter and applause echoed through the dining room as everyone raised their glasses.
Dante smiled, clinking his glass against Clara’s, then stood up, wrapping one arm securely around her waist and pulling her close against his side.
"To new beginnings," Dante spoke, his deep voice carrying across the room, warm and absolute. "And to the best decision I ever made."
Clara smiled up at him, her dark eyes shining with a fierce, unbreakable love, a single pencil tucked neatly behind her dark curls just as it had been the very first day she walked into his office and insulted his suit.

"And remember, everyone," Clara added with a playful wink, raising her glass to the table. "Always check your background, and never underestimate a woman with a sewing kit."
The room erupted into cheers and laughter as the glasses clinked together, sealing a chapter of blood, danger, and passion that would echo through the underworld for generations to come. The curtain had finally fallen on their enemies, but for Dante and Moretti and his brilliant, lethal wife, the greatest show of their lives was only just beginning.
