Chapter 4 - The Trade

"Let her go!" Marcus yelled, charging through the blinding foam, but another guard tackled him to the glass table, which shattered into a thousand glittering shards.
"You're sloppy, Marcus," Victoria said, brushing dust off her white suit as she stood up. Her guard had Anna pinned against the wall, a heavy forearm pressed against her throat while baby Leo wailed in his carrier.
"I'll sign whatever you want!" Anna gasped, struggling for air. "Just don't hurt my brother!"
"Smart girl," Victoria purred, pulling a digital tablet from her coat pocket. "A simple thumbprint authorization transferred to the Blackwood estate, and I'll leave you with enough money to buy all the milk in the world."
Marcus pulled a hidden blade from his boot, sliced the guard holding him, and lunged forward. "Anna, don't do it! Once you sign, you lose your leverage! They won't leave you alive!"
Victoria drawn a small, silencer-equipped pistol and aimed it directly at baby Leo's crib. "One touch of her thumb, Marcus, or the child pays for your arrogance."
Anna’s eyes widened in sheer horror. "Okay! I'll do it! I'll do it!"
She pressed her thumb against the glowing glass screen of the tablet. The device chimed green: TRANSFER COMPLETE.
