Chapter 9 - Epilogue — The New DynastySix months later, the Grand Oak Hotel hosted another major gala.

This time, the ballroom was packed not with former classmates comparing mortgages and gray hairs, but with local leaders, environmental activists, and the board of directors of the newly restored Carter-Brooks Foundation—a charitable trust dedicated to protecting the Blue Ridge wilderness and supporting victims of corporate fraud.
I stood near the entrance in a sharp, tailored suit—real this time, no borrowed armor—watching the doors.
A sleek black car pulled up to the hotel entrance.
The door opened, and Rachel stepped out.
She wore a breathtaking, custom-tailored emerald silk gown that shimmered under the flashbulbs of the press corps. But what caught everyone's attention wasn't just the dress.
It was the blinding, flawless platinum-and-diamond ring sparkling brilliantly on her left ring finger.
The flashbulbs went off like a thunderstorm.
Rachel walked up the grand marble steps with the absolute poise and confidence of a woman who owned her world. She spotted me across the lobby, her lips curving into that familiar, devastatingly beautiful smile that had kept me anchored through every storm.
She walked straight up to me, slipping her hand into mine. The ring caught the light of the crystal chandelier overhead, casting tiny rainbows across the polished marble floor.
"Late again, Mrs. Brooks," I murmured, kissing the back of her hand.

Rachel laughed, leaning her head against my shoulder as the cameras flashed around us.
"Traffic from the mountains was terrible," she whispered. "Besides... a good entrance always takes a little preparation."
