Chapter 5 - THE BOARDROOM PURGEAt 9:00 AM sharp on Monday morning, the glass doors of the Mercer Biomedical executive boardroom slid open.

When I walked in, wearing a sharp charcoal-gray pantsuit and my mother’s repaired pearl necklace resting securely against my collarbone, the five remaining board members—all loyal cronies of Vivian who had tried to block my medical board certifications—sat frozen in their leather chairs.

They had expected a frightened, concussed girl.

Instead, they got an apex predator.

I took my seat at the head of the polished mahogany table—the exact seat my mother had occupied before her untimely death.

"Good morning, gentlemen," I said, my voice cutting cleanly through the nervous tension in the room.

Chief Operating Officer Marcus Vance (no relation to the federal director, but equally corrupt) cleared his throat nervously, adjusting his tie. "Ah... Claire. We were under the impression you were recovering from your accident at a... specialized facility."

"Clearly, your information network is as flawed as your financial audits, Marcus," I replied evenly, sliding five thick manila folders across the table.

Marcus stared at the folder in front of him. He reached out with a trembling hand, flipped it open, and turned deadly pale.

Inside were bank statements, wire transfers, and signed collusion agreements proving he had accepted kickbacks to approve substandard medical trials at our corporate labs.

"You're looking at federal indictments for medical fraud," I stated, leaning forward, resting my elbows on the table. "You have two choices. You can sign your immediate resignation, forfeit all stock options, and walk out of this building right now... or you can wait for the FBI agents currently waiting in the lobby to walk you out in handcuffs."

The room erupted into frantic murmurs.

"You can't do this!" one board member shouted, slamming his fist on the table. "We built this company!"

"My mother built this company from a rented garage," I snapped, my eyes flashing with a cold, blinding fury that silenced the room instantly. "You were just parasites feeding off her legacy. Sign the papers. Now."

Within forty-five seconds, five pens hit the table.
