Chapter 7 - THE NEW ERA OF MERCER BIOMEDICALSix months later, the front page of The Wall Street Journal featured a full-page spread that shook the pharmaceutical and tech industries to their core:

MERCER BIOMEDICAL ANNOUNCES BREAKTHROUGH IN NEUROLOGICAL REGENERATION; CEO CLAIRE MERCER PLEDGES 50% OF PROFITS TO FREE PUBLIC HEALTH INITIATIVES.

From the 75th-floor penthouse office of Mercer Biomedical, I watched the morning sunlight flood across the Manhattan skyline.

The company wasn't just surviving; it was pioneering revolutionary treatments for traumatic brain injuries and chronic illnesses—turning my mother’s original vision into a global lifeline.

My father was living in a quiet, modest apartment in upstate New York, supported by a monthly stipend I provided anonymously. He never reached out, and I never visited. Some bridges are burned so thoroughly that even time cannot rebuild them.

Vivian was currently trial-bound at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, her legal team having abandoned her after her offshore accounts were completely seized by the government.

The heavy oak office door opened softly.

Director Vance walked in, carrying a small velvet box. He placed it neatly on my desk.

"Audit complete, Miss Mercer," Vance said with a respectful nod. "Every hidden asset has been recovered. And... something else was recovered from Vivian's personal safety deposit box during the federal raid."

I looked down at the box.

I opened the lid.

Inside lay the scattered white pearls—every single one of them recovered by federal marshals, cleaned, and re-strung on a new, unbreakable titanium-threaded cord.
