Chapter 3 - The Secret Vault in the Master Bedroom — "I Broke the Wall and Found a Hidden Safe Filled with Stolen Assets!"

On Thursday morning, I arrived at the Harper mansion with Mr. Vance and a team of legal auditors. The massive white house looked beautiful in the morning sun, but to me, it felt like a hollow monument to a lifetime of deception.
When we walked through the front door, the house was silent. True to my word, Vivian and Alyssa had packed their suitcases the night before. Rosa, the old housekeeper, met me in the hallway, her eyes sparkling with a quiet, triumphant joy.
"They are gone, Miss Candace," Rosa whispered, giving my hand a warm squeeze. "They took their clothes and their jewelry, but the lawyers made sure they didn't touch the art or the furniture."
"Thank you, Rosa," I said. "Where is my father's bedroom?"
"On the second floor, the east wing," she said. "But Vivian kept the master suite locked since yesterday."
I walked up the grand staircase, my heels clicking sharply against the polished wood. The master bedroom was vast, decorated in shades of gold and deep cream—Vivian’s taste entirely. The massive walk-in closet was half-empty, the scent of her expensive perfume still lingering in the air like a ghost.
Marcus, a forensic locksmith I had hired on Victoria’s recommendation, was already at work on the back wall of the closet.
"There's a hidden compartment behind the shoe racks, Ms. Harper," Marcus said, pointing to a seam in the wood. "It's a digital biometric safe, but your father registered an emergency master override code with his corporate attorney years ago."
Mr. Vance stepped forward, entering a long string of numbers into the hidden keypad. Click. Whirrrr. The heavy steel door popped open.
Inside the safe were not my father’s corporate papers. They were Vivian’s secret stash.
I reached in and pulled out three thick ledgers, several black velvet boxes, and a stack of bearer bonds. As I flipped through the first ledger, my eyes widened.
"Mr. Vance, look at this," I said, handing him the document.
Over the past five years, while my father’s health was failing, Vivian had been systematically embezzling funds from the Harper Family Charitable Foundation—a charity my father had set up in my mother's memory. She had funneled over $1.2 million into an offshore account registered under her maiden name.
Even worse, the velvet boxes didn't contain family heirlooms. They contained over $400,000 worth of loose, uncut diamonds—highly liquid assets that were completely untraceable.
"She wasn't just planning to live off the inheritance, Candace," Mr. Vance said, his face darkening as he reviewed the bearer bonds. "She knew William had changed the will to favor his biological child. She found out about the DNA clause months ago, and she was preparing to liquidate the charity fund and flee the country with Alyssa before the will was read."

"She was going to rob my father's legacy blind," I whispered, my blood running cold.
I turned to Marcus. "Call the Sheriff's department. And tell them to bring a warrant for grand larceny and corporate embezzlement. Vivian Harper isn't just leaving this house—she’s going to a cell."
