Chapter 5 - THE GHOST OF STERLING INDUSTRIESDawn broke over the cliffs, painting the churning gray ocean in streaks of bruised purple and pale gold.

Inside the high-security bunker built into the bedrock beneath Sterling Manor, glowing computer monitors cast a blue, ethereal light across the walls. Dozens of live security feeds flickered—showing the perimeter gates, the coastline, and the two bound intruders locked securely in the reinforced holding cells downstairs.
Elelliana sat in a plush leather executive chair that was far too big for her, wrapped in a thick wool blanket, sipping warm tea. The twin babies were sleeping peacefully in a custom crib right beside her, blissfully unaware of the war zone their new home had become.
Marcus stood by a massive digital map of the city, tapping keys on a tactical terminal. "We interrogated the first operative, Mr. Sterling. He didn't break easily, but pressure points rarely fail. They aren't common thugs. They belong to a private security syndicate on Victor Thorne’s direct payroll."
Nathan stood over the console, staring down at a digital dossier displayed on the central screen. The photo showed a man in his late fifties with impeccably tailored silver hair, cold reptilian eyes, and a devastatingly charming smile: Victor Thorne, CEO of Thorne Global Logistics and Nathan’s former business partner.
"Ten years ago, Victor and I built Sterling Industries from the ground up," Nathan said, his voice cold and flat as glass. "When I discovered he was embezzling pension funds from our worker’s relief trust to fund his offshore accounts, I stripped him of his voting shares and pushed him out. He swore he would ruin me, strip me of every cent, and leave me with nothing."
Elelliana looked up from her tea. "And now... because you helped me... he knows where you are?"
Nathan turned to her, walking over and resting a warm, heavy hand on her small shoulder. "No, El. Victor has been hunting me for years. But you didn't trigger this attack. You just accelerated the timeline. He thought I was a hermit hiding in a fortress. He didn't expect me to care about anyone enough to leave my armor off."
He crouched down so he was eye-level with her. "Listen to me, Elelliana. From this moment on, you are safe here. But things are going to change. We are going to take the fight directly to Victor Thorne. Are you with me?"
She looked at her twenty-seven-cent napkin sitting on the metal table beside her—the token of her entire past life of starvation and cold streets. Then she looked at Nathan, at the twins sleeping soundly, and at the man who had bought her milk when the entire world had turned its back.
She reached out and placed her small, cold hand inside Nathan’s large, calloused palm.
"I told you," she whispered fiercely, her eyes burning with a sudden, unshakeable resolve. "I'll pay you back when I grow up. But until then... I'm not running anymore."
Marcus tapped a key, bringing up a live financial feed of the stock market opening bell in New York. "Mr. Sterling, Thorne Global Logistics is about to acquire the city’s largest public transport contract at noon today. If we execute the override code you planted in their mainframe last year, we can tank their stock value by forty percent before lunch."

Nathan stood up, a dangerous, razor-sharp smile cutting across his face.
"Let's crash his empire," Nathan said quietly. "Let's see how much power Victor has when his bank accounts start bleeding out."
