Chapter 3 - The Web Unravels

"This is a conspiracy! A hostile takeover!" my father shouted, his voice cracking with sheer desperation as he realized his empire was dissolving in real time. He looked around wildly at the hundreds of witnesses, searching for an ally, a friendly face, anyone who would believe him.

Instead, he found only cold stares and recording smartphones.

Mr. Pendelton didn’t even blink. He opened the Manila folder and pulled out a stack of documents, holding them up for the cameras.

"For over a decade," Pendelton’s resonant voice carried effortlessly across the courtyard, "Richard Bennett has operated a systemic pattern of corporate fraud, intellectual property theft, and financial extortion. But what makes this case uniquely tragic is how those crimes were weaponized against his own daughter."

The crowd leaned in closer. The atmosphere shifted from shock to collective fury.

"When Miss Bennett was sixteen years old," Pendelton continued, reading from the documents, "her father forced her to sign away her inheritance under duress, threatening to institutionalize her if she refused. When she turned eighteen, he systematically sabotaged her college applications, trying to force her into a local business management program where he could keep her under surveillance. When she defied him and enrolled here on a full academic scholarship, he hired private investigators to track her movements, tap her phone, and fabricate academic misconduct claims."

Professor Hughes’s face hardened into stone. She looked down at my father with absolute disgust. "Mr. Bennett... you used this university as a pawn in your domestic abuse and corporate crimes."

"It's a lie! All of it!" my father yelled, his expensive gray suit now wrinkled and damp with sweat. He pointed a trembling finger at me, his eyes wide and bloodshot. "She’s an ungrateful, manipulative bitch! We fed her, we clothed her, we gave her a life! And this is how she repays us—by destroying her own family over a bitter grudge!"

I stepped away from the podium, walking slowly to the edge of the stage. I looked down at the man who had terrorized my life for twenty-two years.

"You didn't give me a life, Dad," I said quietly, the microphone picking up every breath. "You kept me prisoner in one. You stole my mother's inheritance first, then my grandfather's patents, and you tried to steal my future. But you made one fatal mistake."

My father glared up at me, his chest heaving. "What mistake?"

"You forgot that truth leaves a paper trail," I replied. "And unlike you, I didn't need to lie, cheat, or manipulate anyone to build mine. I earned every single word on this diploma."

Mr. Pendelton stepped forward, snapping his briefcase shut with a sharp clack. "Furthermore, federal investigators are currently executing search warrants at Bennett Enterprises headquarters. Safe deposit boxes containing hidden offshore accounts, forged trust deeds, and internal memos detailing the harassment campaign against Miss Bennett have already been seized."

Sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder by the second. Red and blue emergency lights began flashing against the historic brick buildings surrounding the courtyard.
