Chapter 3 - The Secret Vault Beneath the FloorboardsAs Dominic’s men swept up the stairs, Paige Langford screamed, dropping the broken champagne flute she had used to threaten Harper. It shattered against the marble floor below, the sound echoing like gunfire.

“You can’t do this!” Paige shrieked, running toward her father. “Daddy, do something! Tell them to get out!”

Grayson was shaking now, the veneer of untouchable wealth cracking away to reveal a desperate, cornered fraud. He lunged toward Dominic, his fist raised in a pathetic display of rage. “You think you can just walk in here and ruin twenty years of work? I’ll destroy you! I have politicians in my pocket!”

Dominic didn't even flinch. He caught Grayson’s wrist mid-swing with a grip like a hydraulic press. With a subtle twist, Grayson dropped to his knees, gasping in agony as his arm was pinned behind his back.

“Politicians buy legislation, Grayson,” Dominic murmured, leaning down so only he could hear. “I buy the people who own the politicians. Did you really think I wouldn't check on her?”

Upstairs, two of Dominic’s elite guards gently lifted Harper by her uninjured arm. Her face was pale, her golden hair matted with dried blood, but as her eyes met Dominic’s across the grand foyer, a flicker of fierce survival sparked back to life.

“Mr. Kane,” Harper whispered as they brought her down the stairs.

Dominic released Grayson instantly, letting the older man collapse onto the carpet like a broken puppet. In two long strides, Dominic was at the foot of the stairs. He shed his authoritative coldness in an instant, his large hand gently cupping the side of Harper’s uninjured cheek, his thumb lightly brushing away a tear mixed with blood.

“I’m here, Harper,” he said, his voice dropping an octave, warm and fierce. “You’re safe now.”

“My father’s desk,” Harper managed to say, leaning slightly into his touch. “The secret ledger. He kept all the offshore accounts, the bribed judges, the forged signatures from my mother’s estate... it’s all in the floor vault underneath the antique desk.”

Grayson’s head snapped up from the floor, absolute terror contorting his face. “She’s lying! She’s out of her mind!”

Dominic didn't look back at Grayson. He scooped Harper up effortlessly into his arms, carrying her bridal-style down the remaining steps as the three hundred elite guests watched in stunned, horrified silence.

“Search the library,” Dominic instructed his chief enforcer, Marcus. “Take every hard drive, every document, and crack that floor safe. Let’s see what kind of charitable foundation Mr. Langford has been running.”

“No!” Celeste screamed, lunging forward, but two of Dominic’s guards blocked her path with chilling efficiency.

As Dominic carried Harper out toward the waiting fleet of black sedans idling in the snow outside, he whispered into her ear, “By dawn, sweetheart, this entire house—and everyone who ever helped protect your father—will confess to every single crime they committed.”
