Chapter 5 - The Billionaire’s Medical SuiteMiles away from the chaos of Ravenshore, inside the ultra-secure private medical wing of the Kane Estate, a team of top-tier trauma specialists worked in quiet efficiency.

Harper sat on the edge of an examination table, a white medical wrap stabilizing her fractured hand, while a nurse gently cleaned the cut on her cheekbone. The sting was sharp, but the overwhelming warmth of the room—and the presence of Dominic standing silently by the window—made her feel safer than she had in her entire life.

The door opened softly, and Dominic turned around. He had removed his heavy coat, revealing a tailored charcoal vest and crisp white shirt rolled up at the sleeves.

“How is her hand, Dr. Vance?” Dominic asked, his voice steady and low.

“Fractured phalanges, Mr. Kane,” the elderly doctor replied, packing away his instruments. “It will require a splint for six weeks and physical therapy, but there is no permanent nerve damage. She’s remarkably resilient.”

“Thank you, Doctor. Leave us.”

The medical staff filed out silently, closing heavy oak doors behind them.

The room fell into a profound quiet, broken only by the crackle of a private fireplace in the corner. Harper looked down at her wrapped hand, a bitter, self-deprecating smile touching her lips.

“You shouldn't have come,” Harper whispered, not meeting his eyes. “You didn't owe me anything. Our marriage... it was just a business arrangement to secure the shipping routes between our families. You didn't have to declare war on half of Greenwich for me.”

Dominic walked slowly across the Persian rug until he stood directly in front of her. He reached out, his warm fingers gently lifting her chin so she had no choice but to look into his intense, unblinking eyes.

“A business arrangement?” Dominic repeated, his voice dangerously soft. “Harper, the day I signed our marriage certificate, you weren't just a partner in a contract. You became a Kane.”

Harper’s breath hitched. “They mocked you, Dominic. Paige laughed. My father smashed the phone right in my face and told me no one was coming.”

Dominic’s jaw tightened, a muscle ticking in his cheek—the only sign of the boiling fury beneath his calm exterior.

“They thought money and corrupted politicians made them untouchable,” Dominic said, leaning down slightly so his gaze held hers captive. “They forgot that I didn't build my empire on handshakes and political favors. I built it on leverage. And by sunrise, your father won't just confess to abusing you—he’s going to sign over every remaining asset he owns to the person he tried to destroy.”

Harper stared at him, her heart hammering against her ribs, realizing with a rush of absolute clarity that the most feared man on the East Coast wasn't her captor—he was her protector.
