Chapter 3 - THE ARRAIGNMENT PERFORMANCEThree days later, the courtroom of Judge Thomas Sterling was packed with reporters, local camera crews, and curious onlookers.

Daniel sat in the front row directly behind the district attorney, dressed in an immaculate charcoal suit, playing the role of the heartbroken, grieving brother to absolute perfection. When the cameras flashed, he lowered his head, pressing a handkerchief to his dry eyes.
The prosecutor stood up proudly, laying out the state's case.
"Your Honor, the evidence against Ms. Mercer is overwhelming," the prosecutor declared, gesturing toward the fake bank printouts and the heavily edited video clip. "She systematically manipulated, abused, and financially exploited her aging mother to steal an eighteen-million-dollar estate."
Judge Sterling frowned, looking down at me with deep disapproval. "Ms. Mercer, do you have any statement before the court remands you for trial without bail?"
I stood up slowly at the defense table. I wasn't wearing a designer suit, but my back was straight, my eyes were clear, and my voice carried a calm, chilling authority that made the courtroom hush.
"Your Honor," I said clearly. "My brother Daniel is indeed a very talented actor. But before the court decides my remand, I would like to submit a supplemental motion for immediate dismissal based on newly discovered digital evidence of wholesale forgery, witness tampering, and evidence fabrication by the primary beneficiary."

The prosecutor scoffed, laughing aloud. "Objection! This is a desperate delay tactic!"
"Overruled, Counsel," Judge Sterling snapped, leaning forward. "Let's see what evidence the defense has."
