Chapter 5 - THE SHOWDOWN AT THE ESTATE

We needed a stronghold, a place where legal writs and corporate fixers couldn't touch us. I drove us straight to an abandoned federal communications bunker located deep within the dense pine forests outside the city limits—a property I had purchased years ago and retrofitted with independent power generators, satellite links, and heavy-duty security gates.
By morning, Emily was resting safely on a medical cot, her color returning slowly as she held Noah against her chest, weeping tears of pure, unadulterated relief. Daniel sat nearby, his head bowed in deep, agonizing remorse.
"I'm so sorry, Emily," Daniel choked out, his voice cracking. "I was a blind fool. My mother... she monsters everything she touches."
"An apology doesn't fix a fractured family, Daniel," I said, cleaning the slide of my sidearm at the workbench. "Your mother thinks she's untouchable because she controls the paperwork. But she forgot one crucial detail."
"What's that?" Daniel asked.
"Monopoly money stops working when you burn the board," I replied.
My phone pinged. A secure notification from a trusted cyber-intelligence contact in Washington displayed a complete financial ledger of the Sterling Trust, along with recorded wire transfers proving Margaret had embezzled millions from public health grants to fund her legal empire and corporate acquisitions.
"We don't need a judge to grant us justice," I said, standing up and pulling on my combat jacket. "We are going to stream every single cloud audio file, every medical forgery, and every financial crime directly to the federal grand jury, every major news network, and Margaret’s corporate board simultaneously."
Before I could hit the broadcast button, the heavy iron security gates at the entrance of our bunker rattled violently. Headlights cut through the thick forest fog.
Through the security monitors, we saw three black SUVs smash through the gates. Armed private security contractors in tactical gear spilled out onto the gravel driveway, led by Margaret herself, who stepped out holding a shotgun with a look of pure, unhinged fury on her face.
"Vance!" Margaret's voice boomed through the outdoor intercom speakers. "You cannot hide from the law! Open these doors, or we burn this entire bunker to the ground with all of you inside!"
Emily clutched Noah tighter, her eyes wide with terror. "Dad... what do we do?"

I smiled grimly, looking down at the transmission screen showing the upload progress bar at 99%.
"We let them walk right into our living room," I said, clicking the remote that unlocked the heavy blast doors.
