Chapter 5 - THE TRUE HEIRThe silence that returned to St. Jude’s was heavy, thick with the scent of white lilies and the sharp, undeniable reality of a new era.

Three hundred of the most powerful people in New York stood in utter stillness, staring at the twenty-seven-year-old woman they had dismissed as a weak, asthmatic liability just fifteen minutes prior.

I walked slowly up the marble steps of the altar, pausing beside Grandfather Elias's mahogany casket.

I placed my hand gently on the polished wood.

"You left me a heavy kingdom, Grandfather," I murmured, my voice carrying clearly through the cathedral's acoustic arches.

I turned around to face the congregation. Every eye was locked on me—not with condescension or pity, but with absolute, unadulterated fear and respect.

"The funeral service for Elias Mercer will proceed in peace," I announced calmly. "And tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM sharp, the first board meeting of the new Mercer Dynamics will commence. Attendance is mandatory for all current executives."

I didn't wait for a response. I turned and walked down the side aisle, flanked by Sterling and the tactical security detail.

As I stepped out of the cathedral doors into the crisp Manhattan air, a fleet of black armored Maybachs idled at the curb. The doors opened automatically.

My phone vibrated with a single notification from the main server: Mercer Dynamics global market share: 100%. System secure.

I got into the car, closed the door, and took a deep, effortless breath of clean air.

The empire was finally in the right hands.
