Chapter 6 - THE CAPTAIN'S SURRENDERFifteen minutes later, the heavy iron doors of the cargo hold slid open again.

This time, it wasn't cartel enforcers or corrupt security guards who stepped through. It was Captain Henrikssen himself, flanked by two armed federal maritime police officers who had boarded the vessel via a Coast Guard interceptor boat dispatched from Cozumel.

The captain looked pale, sweating profusely through his white uniform shirt as he stared at the carnage: Vargas and his enforcers bound and zip-tied on the floor, Miller nursing his neck in the corner, and Santiago curled in a fetal position against a shipping crate.

Standing in the center of it all, drenched from head to toe in water, standing tall in a tattered wedding dress with a Glock in one hand and a dented aluminum baseball bat in the other, was Renata Cruz.

Captain Henrikssen swallowed hard, raising his hands slowly. "Inspector... we received an override ping from the federal maritime task force. What is the meaning of this?"

Renata tossed the encrypted satellite transmitter onto the captain's clipboard.

"The meaning, Captain, is that your ship has been operating as an unregistered smuggling vessel for a cartel syndicate," Renata said, her voice cutting through the damp air like a razor. "You have twenty minutes to secure the bridge, lock down all external communications, and prepare for a full forensic audit when we dock in Belize."

The federal police officers stepped past the captain, immediately moving to secure Vargas and Santiago. One of them, a senior lieutenant with weathered skin and an honest badge, looked at Renata with profound respect.

"Are you alright, Sergeant Cruz?" the lieutenant asked, recognizing her tactical posture instantly.

"I've had better honeymoons," Renata said, wiping a strand of wet hair from her forehead. She looked down at Santiago, who was currently being hauled to his feet by two armed officers, sobbing hysterically as the steel handcuffs clicked around his wrists.

"You can't do this!" Santiago shrieked as they dragged him past her toward the elevator. "My family owns you! My father will destroy your entire life!"

Renata stepped close to him, resting the dented aluminum baseball bat lightly across her shoulder.

"Tell your father," Renata whispered softly into his ear, "that tradition is over."
